Hello folks!

I was originally running my ArcadeVGA through Groovy Arcade live cd. But decided to switch to Windows because I wanted to use Hyperspin.

When running through Groovy Arcade it looks beautiful on my WG 3000 monitor. Perfect 1:1 pixel mapping and it looks better than any arcade I've seen in recent memory.

But when switching to Windows, I followed the directions at http://www.ultimarc.com/avgainst.html .. specifically running mame with the command line options -videoddraw -nohwstretch -switchres ... There's a huge flicker when Mame starts.

I have been using the Tapper rom to test. The ArcadeVGA driver is installed. My windows resolution is 640x480 - which has quite a flicker as well, but that's to be expected at that resolution (I think).

I've also tried editing my ini file and adding in all the suggested parameters.

I'm able to remove the flicker if I turn on hardware scaling and force 320x240 resolution - but that takes away the whole point of buying this card.

Any ideas?

This may very well have nothing to do with it, but I think it's interesting that Tapper is an MCR game and I'm pretty sure it puts the monitor into interlaced mode to get the graphics resolution up to EGA level when running at a CGA frequency. Spy Hunter does the same. If you look closely at these MCR games you'll notice a bit of flicker even when running on all original hardware..

Probably not causing your problem but I'm sure it's adding to your flickering. You might try testing with a rom other than MCR until you get things narrowed down a bit.

Make sure you post your eventual solution here too, if you don't mind?

Makes sense - but when I ran the same rom on the Groovy Arcade LiveCD, there was practically no flicker at all. It would be nice to find out that this is a unique case though. Then I'd just forget it and deal with it the few times I play Tapper. I'll check other roms and see if this is a unique case. And yes, whatever I figure out - I'll report back here.

Thanks for the help.
