Finally got the chance to put together the second sign that Brett had cut for me. With this one, I decided to go with just the colors of the stripes in my game room, Blue and green. I also went with the 3.3 mm wire, so I pounded it in the 1/8" channel with a rubber mallet, no hot glue needed. With the 2.2 mm stuff, I had to hot glue it all in place. I also went with 2 9V power supplies, so that I can alternate the effect of the border and the letters. Currently, I have the green border blinking, and the blue letters are always lit. For the pics, I obviously had to get them all lit at the same time:

Awesome Sign......

Looks GREAT! Neon in the game room is always a plus!

Do you have a picture of the back of the sign. Just curious on the EL wiring.....

It looks like crap but i hate to see it go to waste so send it to me and i will put it in my game rooom. I want's the preciousssssssssssssssssssss..................

The wife is already trying to get me to get rid of it, saying we have no room. I love this sign. She loves the colors, but not the size. It's huge. I wonder what ever happened to Shar's buddy? He was supposed to design EL interface/control boards to be able to customize the sign's motion. Oh well, sometimes simple is better. I really should take a video of it in action. Looks awesome.

I have an idea for a second run of signs, these will be more horizontal, but have the same overall feeling as the first ones. Here is the inspiration sign, which I happened to find right here in my town:

Those signs are both great. What type of material did you pound the EL Wire into? I am pretty new, so not really sure what type of products Brett makes, but it must be sweet, because those are way cool and you can barely see any of the base in the pics.

The signs are 3/4" plywood, CNC routed to shape, and then a 1/8" channel is routed for the letters and the border. The EL wire gets either glued or pounded into the channel, depending on the wire size. The sign/base is painted flat black and the letters painted silver. Then silver is dry brushed or 'ragged' onto the whole sign to give it a distressed/ been out in the weather for 30 years look. The wire shows up so well because of the flat black base paint not reflecting much light back around the wire.
