greetings programs!

all shirts have shipped. they should start showing up by friday.

i thought it would be cool to snap a few pics of the process of screen printing these shirts, just so everyone who is not familiar with what goes into it can see how it works.

please excuse the quality of the pics, as they were taken with my phone. i assure you the colors are nice and bright.

ok, so the way this shirt was printed was different. for the other shirts each solid color is printed and then flash-cured (which basically means the shirt was heated at about 200 degrees or so to dry the ink so the next color printed did not smudge or fuzzy up the details.

for spy hunter the art is a full color painting. to print in solid colors it would have been at least 12 to 14 colors, which i am limited to six at this time. so for this shirt i used a technique called four-color-process, which the art is set up in half-tones and printed with yellow, cyan, magenta, and black to create all the correct colors. the inks are transparent so they may blend with the other colors.

this is why they have to be printed on a white shirt. if these were printed on a dark shirt, you wouldn't be able to see the print at all really.

it is possible to do this style of printing on a dark shirt by using what's known as "discharge ink" which bleaches the shirt out underneath the print. i don't like to use this ink very much due to the fact it has been known to cause a bit of cancer here and there.

that being said, these turned out pretty awesome if i say so myself.
take a look.

I must have missed whenever these were sold? Pls shoot me a PM if you still have the Burgertime shirt or plan to run more.

those look fantastic. i love the q-bert one.

any chance you're doing another run of these?

An interesting read.

How do you place the additional color printings exactly in the correct spot to get a picture to form perfectly?

I spray the pallet with a light adhesive which prevents the shirt from moving. Garment printing is different from say printing a marquee or something. With a shirt you print the whole thing in one go and then run it through a conveyor belt dryer which cures the ink. With a marquee you print one color and let it dry and then line up the next screen and print the second color.

Wow! Those look awesome. If you do another run of the Burgertime ones, count me in for 2 shirts (1 XL, 1 L).

That's some high quality t-shirt work!
