Arcade Screenshots Vs. Their Colecovision Counterparts

Ok, I'm bored as well and Phetishboy inspired me with his "Arcade Screenshots Vs. Their 2600 Counterparts" thread from yesterday located here...

But really, this proves that the Colecovision actually was that much better than the 2600!!!

Universal "Mr. Do".

Well at least the 2600 had the correct number of levels on the girder screen. :)

It's amazing how many movies, advertisements, etc. still use the 2600 DK audio for generic video game sounds. I heard one on an ad not a month ago.

/and yes, DK 2600 sucked. It was disappointing even BITD, although I played a lot of it because it was better than going outside.

Yeah the 5200 did not have that bad of graphics or sound as I recall.

I wish my grandparents would have made that choice instead of the 2600 growing up. Of course I did get a SNES anyhow so it's all good.

That also brings up another thread or two. Sega v.s. SNES screens, or Arcade v.s. SNES screens. You could go on on on...

and C64 screens. I had a disc of around 10 arcade game ports to C64 that, at the time, looked just like arcade graphics. They were pretty close.. Dig Dug, Popeye, DK, Ms Pac, and I don't recall what others.

That Colecovision version of Moon Patrol is a great game. Wasn't that a home-brew game made just a couple years ago?

Colecovision kicked serious ass for its time, the best games IMHO had to be Spy Hunter, Ladybug, Venture, Squishem Sam, Turbo and Pepper II.

I think it was an unreleased prototype that the ROMs got released on. Out of Coleco's vaporware Spectar has finally gotten a homebrew, Side Trak is almost finished and Rip Cord is on the list.

Good choices TB! I would also add Frenzy, Looping, War Games... I know this sounds funny, but I even liked the Cabbage Patch one in the park - kind of a Pitfall clone.

The Colecovision was and still is my favorite console of all time! Wish they would've never made that abomination called the ADAM and just stuck w/ gaming consoles. From magazines and what not back then; they definitely had some good games coming up! It would've been interesting how they would've competed w/ Nintendo....

I was a big-time Colecovision fanboy back in the day. Me and my friends were debating about which system -the Colecovision or 5200- would be best back in 8th grade. My friends bought 5200's and I bought the Colecovision and then later got an Adam for Christmas a couple of years later. When the problems started becoming well known with the Adam systems, we were allowed to return ours for a refund and I ended up getting an Atari home computer, which was a lot of fun. I liked it more than the C64 that some of my friends had...

The funny thing about the Colecovision is that most of the arcade ports for it were of games that I NEVER saw in arcades. There weren't too many Universal arcade games made, for example. The one thing that REALLY got me excited about the Colecovision was when they acquired the rights to Dragon's Lair and announced a disc player add-on. The promise of being able to play an arcade perfect version of that game at home on my TV was the stuff of fantastic DREAMS....
