Arcade Repair Day - NoVA: Saturday, 11/5/11

DogP
The WG is a 7302(had to check) and I recently moved the tube and chassis to a new frame. I think I might have shorted something in the process because when I turn it on I get no picture but if I reset the power a couple of times it works fine and looks good. It worked great before i switched the frame.

The V2000 is out of a nice battlezone that I picked up recently out of a basement where it sat for 10 years. I was pleasantly surprised that the boards worked great and the controls feel really tight on this one but could use some guidance on what i need to do fix on the monitor.

See you Saturday!

I haven't had that much time to really dig into it to start fixing it. Just too darn busy right now.

I was thinking of a universal board but decided against it for 2 reasons. First, there is sound like Asteroids. It speeds up when the time is running out. Second, there is a light flash sequence around the marque. I am pretty sure the universal board doesn't handle that.

Last that I can remember is that the display showed errors which I forget what they are. The carriage didn't move or only moved in one direction. Maybe it wouldn't return home. Man it has been way too long!
I don't blame you at all... I much prefer to fix original stuff. I was just commenting in general about lack of repair resources on them. If you end up digging into it and make a repair post, drop me a message with the link and I'll see if I can help out. I've repaired two of them in the past, and they're usually pretty simple circuits, but there are so many variations that it's hard to give general advice.

This is a VERY admirable thing you're doing and great for the hobby, sharing of knowledge and building friendships. Wish I had the knowledge to offer something like this around here. Hopefully others will feed on this idea.

Kudos to you.
Thanks for the kind words... I certainly didn't come up with the idea, I just really like doing this kinda stuff, and I've gained so much knowledge over the years from these forums that I'm glad to pass on some of that knowledge firsthand.

OT: My parents live on the KS side (but my dad works in Lee's Summit)... any good arcade related stuff to check out in the area?

Sounds good... we should be in good shape for testing them. I'll try to have docs and stuff ready. I'd first suspect the degaussing coil on the 7302, but we can check it out when you get here.

Last minute bump... I think I've sent my address to everyone that needed it, but let me know if I missed you.

Actually, I just pulled apart the VB that I had set up here, which I had already fixed. So we can just swap the displays with that system when you get here.

It was a great day and thanks to DogP for hosting another repair party! We managed to fix the v2000 I brought, which completed my second working Battlezone. We spent time doing repairs on a bunch of boards(omega race, pac/gal, and asteroids), monitors and I think everyone learned something new.

It's always good hanging out with other klovers because we have that rare opportunity to talk about all the different ways we have shocked ourselves working on these games... lol

Cant wait for the next one!

how was the repair day??
Yep... it went pretty well, and now I'm exhausted (stayed up too late, got up too early, and we stayed busy all day). Good thing we get an extra hour of sleep tonight. :) I'd say we got a lot accomplished... too bad we didn't get Pinball Wizard's Asteroids going yet though. I think we're a little closer, but ugh!

Yeah, I'm glad that you were able to get the v2000 going without much trouble. BTW, have you re-tested the K7302? I assume it's still shutting down? Be careful if you pull that board... it'll shock you! ;)

If there is going to be another repair get together please let me know. I definitely want to attend. PM me!

DogP..... do you want o try and repair the board for the crane? I have two. Also how about a Battlezone PCB repair?

just asking

I don't think there will be another repair party for a while... probably around the next arcade party, which should be somwhere around March to May. And while i'd love to help out, I don't have any good way of testing/troubleshooting a crane or Battlezone PCB. :( I'd really need the cabs here to see what's going on.

If you have basic skills and patience, you should make a post in the repair section... I don't have a lot of experience with Battlezone PCBs, but I'm sure someone could help. I know the interconnects frequently have bad solder joints and/or contacts, which would be my first thing to check. And if you post documentation (schems, etc) and details about what the crane is/isn't doing, one of us may be able to give you some ideas of stuff to check.

Check all the ROMs on the Bz board.. I just fixed 2 that had several bad ROMs.
If it wont boot, its probably either the first ROM or the 0-3FF ram.
