Hey,

I was driving by a strip mall a couple miles from my house and saw a new arcade just opened! I'm totally surprised by it... I've just been seeing arcades closing (I think most of our mall arcades are gone now), but this one just opened as a standalone arcade, not really even linked to anything (except other random stores in the strip mall like a furniture store, Radio Shack, etc).

It's called Majestic Fun, in Manassas, VA. Their website sucks ( http://www.majesticfun.com/ ), but if you click photos, you can sorta see what it's like.

I haven't gotten a chance to go in, but it looks like they've got mostly new arcades (drivers, shooters, etc), redemption, air hockey, etc. I also saw they had a green laser doing something on the back wall... not sure if it's just for looks, or part of some game. Of course it looks like it's aimed toward young kids, but I should check it out and drop a few bucks on some games (and maybe get some food, assuming it's better than CEC pizza :p).

It can't be much worse than CEC pizza, now can it?

We had a 'Krazy City' open near me (it's in Plymouth Meeting, PA), and I have to say, that sucked. We took the kids there and while there were some fun items (indoor mini golf, indoor climbing structure, 2-lane bowling alley) their selection of games was pretty meager (couple of drivers, one old galaga/ms pac I think, and a guitar hero or two), and they had lots of excess floor space. Given that they seem to have staffing problems (had to wait for everything, never did find anyone to get food from), I'm betting they are gone inside a year.

good news!

Well that's good news! Especially for someone like us who have just built a new game! :) Best of luck to them and thanks for the heads up.

Keep us posted. I'm up in that area fairly often and would stop by if it's worth it.

ahhhhh good ole manassas! wonder if i will ever live there again!
lived there my whole life up till 3 years ago, now in ohio....
i was the manager of aladdins castle from like 2000 to 2002 so some of you might know me as toby who had the crazy spikey hair! at aladdins castle in manassas mall.
i also tended to the games in the herndon fudd ruckers, and a little bit of tending to the games at that larger movie theatre in manassas right past 66 close to nova/cracker barrel/ going towards the old battle field, going toward haymarket.....

any who, anyone here know me? hahah

Cool... if I get over there, I'll post a review, and if anyone else does, do the same :) .

ixtlann: I don't think I've seen you... I didn't move here till 2002, though I know all the places you're talking about. Unfortunately, the Aladdins Castle in the mall (which turned to Namco Arcade) closed last year :( .

I'm amazed Krazy City has lasted this long! It's a joke! It was supposed to be a Dave and Busters wannabe but they have NOTHING in there. I don't know what the deal is but yeah I agree its going to tank hard. I wonder if D&B being in the same mall had anything to do with the # of games they could run or something.

Yeah, it seems like most arcades nowadays have to have the DDR/Shooter/Driver/Redemption/Ultracade format as kids seem to enjoy those the most. I have a Boomer's (http://www.boomersparks.com/) down the street and it has the same format and it really sucks. Unfortunately, I don't think they'll ever be a good arcade like BITD (70s, 80s or early 90s) other than maybe Richie's place on the East coast and some of the guys in here who have a good selection of games in their homes.

Man, DogP. Member since 2001? You're almost at your 10-year mark. We should have a celebration for you! :)

Sad now that the Super Wally has opened and mall business has picked up. I live about a mile from the mall and am usually there with the wife when she wants to go to Macy's.

Nope, it's still open. The Chuck-E-Cheese is still there and a new Planet Fitness gym is open in the same strip as well as a new Italian restaurant. On the other side of town, you would not believe the new development along Libera avenue past the other Wally.

Yeah, you're labeled "Senior Member", but mine should be "KLOV Old Fart". :D

You'd have bet good...cuz they're gone!!

Like he said...talk about a wierd situation. Imagine a huge 2 story Dave and Busters with about 10 games total. Yes...total. The place (restaurant, kiosks, etc) was set up to accomodate a massive configuration...restaurant...kiosks, etc, but they opened with only a small handful of games and obviously thats not going to keep anyone's attention. There were no signs on the doors or anything else, just closed.

Apparently, they never notified anyone who booked birthday parties either...

Someone really f'ed up at that company!

I can confirm that Krazy City is gone. Doors are locked, equipment is still in there last I looked (about a week). D&B opened on the other end of the mall and ate their lunch.

Edit: Wow, I must be tired. Just saw Orion3311's post. DOH. Some of the equipment had post-it notes on them with numbers... I'm imagining for selling the stuff off or some sort of upcoming auction. Been keeping my eyes out for that.

so it was in that strip mall on the NW corner of Centreville & Manassas dr?

I lived in Manassas in the late 80's and my favorite arcade was in that mall.. The Fun Time Arcade. The last time I was in there a couple years ago there was actually a gameroom store there that sold pins & vids, I talked to the owner and he had no idea that his store used to be an arcade. I actually still have cassette tapes of me playing pinball (& some video games like hard drivin') in there since I really dug Williams music at the time.

The laundromat a couple doors down in the same strip mall had a Stern Iron Maiden, only time I ever saw one in the wild.

There was another good arcade just south of there in the Manassas Shopping Center on Mathis ave. That stand-alone building in the parking lot in front of the bowling alley used to be an arcade called Flip Dizzy's. I used to go to the bowling alley because that was the only place that had a Cyclone..

I moved in '89 so I don't know when the arcades closed down.
