Arcade Music?

I have like 4 separate playlists.

Arcade 80's, which is all stuff from 80 to about 85... Der Kommisar, Shake It Up, even stuff I'm not crazy about but that is era correct (The Fixx, Katrina and The Waves, etc).
I think its about 3 hours.

Kids, which is uptempo little kid safe music (Cotton Eye Joe, Who Let The Dogs Out, that kinda crap). This list is only like 2 hours, but the little kids are burnt out on the games in about an hour.

Alternative... Mostly 90's and up stuff. I think this playlist is like 5 hours.

Metal... This is what I usually have on. About 9 hours of Iron Maiden, Anthrax, Megadeth, Slayer with the best stuff from more oddball bands like Ministry.

I just put whatever list is appropriate on Shuffle. Since the lists are all multi-hours long, you can go for a long time and still keep hearing new stuff.

I guess a lot people tend to play 80's stuff because it is of the same time period as most of the machines that many of us have. It adds to the nostalgic immersion. I rock whatever comes up on my iTunes, classic alternative stuff on XM, or whatever my wife puts on. We have similar tastes so it's cool.

the grand theft auto: vice city soundtrack is my favorite... its a box set of like 6 cds, each a "radio station" from the game, so each a different genre of music...

the game (if you haven't played it) is basically "scarface" so the timing is right for the classic arcade, and its all the great songs from the early 80s/late 70s that aren't totally overplayed these days... (like the 16 songs that are on every 80s compilation)

song lists are here:

i removed the fake advertisements, while slightly funny once they get old real quick
