So i know mame is a no no around here and i love dedicated games first and foremost.. That being said, i don't have room for 300 games so mame has a place in my life. Picked up a vga wells monitor for my advance mame setup and all i can say is wow!.games look spot on! goodye 60in1, i'm running about a 350 in one and it looks fantastic. If your running a lcd or computer monitor, you might want to consider a real arcade moniotor. No comparison. my thought for the day.

...or you could go truly arcade authentic and stick with a low res monitor vs a VGA monitor...

Or consider using one of many video converter boards that lets you use your vga monitor to play your dedicated board.

Sometime we use what we have just because it's just there and it is the cheaper route.

Not sure of all the logistics, but advancemame adjust resolutions for different games like the arcadevga card if i remember right. Might be why they look spot on.

Arcade Monitor + MAME > 60in1

By a longshot.

My advice is not to bastardize the experience:

Don't try to run Arkanoid or Centipede with a joystick.
Don't install horizontal games if your monitor is mounted vertically.
Don't overcomplicate the control panel. Make a second one if need be.
Do reward yourself with a well-configured machine.
Do try again if your first attempt leads to ideas for improvement.

I think horizontal games run pretty well on my vertically mounted 25" monitor. Size-wise the picture is pretty close to a 19" horizontal monitor.

I do have to say that although the picture looks great on my arcade monitor, I wish I had a multi-sync arcade monitor as it would make things run a lot smoother.

i have an old TV in one of mine and it looks better than a computer monitor thats for sure.
personally, i would rather run vertical games on a horizontal monitor than vice versa, but thats just personal choice i guess...

Im using a Gateway 31in crt and that shit blows away the u2000 I was using. Im playing newer games tho.
