I've always Mamed my machines, but I was fortunate enough to get a good deal on this MKII cab. My first issue is the monitor. It has a VGA plug on the monitor, but I don't know if I can plug it directly into the computer. I haven't attempted to plug in anything yet. If it won't plug directly into a computer, do I need a ArcadeVGA card from Ultimarc?

The tube says RCA and has a number on it A63ADT10X0

Here are some pics of the monitor:

best I can tell, it's a 25" hantarex

The white molex plug (near the Midway sticker in the pic) is the wires connected to the other end of the VGA plug. Is this safe to plug into a computer? Also the warning sticker says something about having to use a isolation transformer. How do I know if I have that?

Also, what is this thing?

that "thing" is your power supply for the cab and your jamma harness (maybe even a 3/4 player harness too i can't tell what that "player...." tag says., i don't believe you can plug that into your pc either as your pc's vga output doesn't put out the correct signal. you could wire the jamma harness into a mating opposite to make a quick connector i suppose, but your best bet is prolly just to cut that connector off unless your going to do that 4 letter M thing to it...

it might plug into a cga/vga converter, and would definitely plug into a computer with an arcade vga card. (not positive on this tho as i've never used either).

Was whoever you got this cabinet from attempting to convert it to MAME ?
That looks like a VGA breakout cable used for doing just that.

That is not a Hantarex monitor, it is a Wells Gardner K7000. (15Khz)
You would need to use either an ArcadeVGA video card or Soft15khz software.

If you follow the larger pair of wires coming off the left side of the chassis down to the bottom of the cabinet, it should be wired into an isolation transformer.

Thanks so much. Thats good to know. I'm going to use a ArcadeVGA card. I'm going to look to ensure the isolation transformer is installed. I assume it's a necessity.

If it makes you feel any better. It'll be a MK2 themed cabinet and I will be doing no cutting on the cabinet. The only thing I'm doing is making a new CP with 6 buttons instead of 5.

that does make me feel a little better :) not that my opinion matters anyways it's your game :D

try and save the original CP if you can tho

Do you still have the MK2 boardset? Does it work? If so, I'd restore the machine, sell it if necessary, and pick up a generic cabinet with a VGA or tri-sync monitor (such as a WG D-series) with a bult-in HD15 connector as they're made specifically for PC signals. You won't have to worry about video signal conversion, probably come out a hundred or two ahead, and won't have to butcher an MK2 :)

Just buy the ~$35 VGA to CGA converter. This is what I used on my MAME machine.

The VGA cable attached to your monitor would have to be removed and just wired straight to the VGA to CGA adapter (shown yellow, gray, blue, green, red wires).

Wiring config for the adapter is (right to left): RGB as normal, next pin is ground and the last one (Sync) has to go to both negative H Sync and negative V Sync on the monitor chassis.

The adapter does have a VGA out port, but it is only a VGA pass through and doesn't do any converting.

This is much cheaper than a 15K video card plus will work on any current video card config. It is also a lot safer than running 15K software because it will always convert the 15K signal, even in the bios and boot screens.

No. no board. In fact, this is someones previous Mame attempt. I'm really having trouble with the artwork. I want to use as close to the original MKII artwork as I can, but I just can't duplicate the lighting. Thinking of going a different direction with the CP.

All the MK stuff will still be there though.
