Which particular game would you say defines its respective manufacturer? Which one is THE game for the company? Not necessary the best game, but more like the franchise game. Which one put the company on the map, or is your idea of a defining game when you hear the manufacturer's name? For me:

Atari - Asteroids
Taito - Space Invaders
Sega - Frogger
Bally/ Midway - Pacman
Williams - Joust
Nintendo - Donkey Kong
Centuri - Phoenix
Stern - Berzerk

What do you think? Am I way off? Am I missing any companies/games?

I don't think so...though I might say "Defender" for Williams

I would think Defender over Joust for Williams for popularity back in the day. You also forgot Exidy.

Yep, you're probably right on the Defender thing, but for me, Joust is their marquee classic offering. I also never even saw an Exidy game BITD. Never heard of the company until I joined this site 4 years ago.

I have to agree with most of what you went with. I chose Sega Turbo cause it sticks as being SEGA. And Defender, well thats a toss up, with Joust.

That is a great list but I'd have to give the nod to Defender for Williams and Scramble for Stern, but I see how these coiuld be argued either way.

I actually thought someone might challenge my Frogger choice with Zaxxon. Those are the only 2 games I knew from Sega when I was younger. Never heard of Turbo or Pengo.

I guess Outrun was pretty huge for them too, but that was 86. I guess we could do a marquee game list from the classic era, like I originally listed, then a resurgence game list from each surviving company after the crash. Such as:

Taito - Double Dragon
Midway - Mortal Kombat
Atari - Primal Rage

ETC.

I'm not taking your Primal Rage bait this time.

Gottlieb - Q*Bert, but this one goes without saying...

Forgot them and I own one. Yep Q*bert is a must for every classic gameroom.

I really wanna collect based on this premise. Getting the marquee game from each manufacturer and having them all in one room. The rest of the games are gravy if you have the room.
