Arcade hoarders?

To have them. They are not making any more.

Also I need Wizard of wor boards pm me plz

you mean like why people collect hummels and shit? to just stare at them?

The difference is when you hoard boards and parts you are possibly/probably preventing someone who actually has the machine from getting it working.

I can see having backup boards for games you actually own but just sitting on boards with no intention of ever using them is not exactly great for the hobby.

How much you figure DK boards would be if all 2000 being hoarded for no reason would be released back into circulation?

tons of reasons:

1. pcb was sold at a very good/low price, buy them all!

2. you are learning or want to repair a game, so u collect 10-20 pcb's of the same
game to learn about them, the ic's, the cpu, the ram, the rom, the ttl stuff, etc...

3. some ic's are rare and expensive and the only way to acquire some of them is to
buy pcb's at a good low price that the seller might not be aware of.. some pcb's that
come to mind are the gorf/wizard of wor pcb with the votrax speech IC on it. worth
$20-30 or higher just for that impossible to get IC. :)

4. to have one or many backup pcb's for your rare game if it goes down.

you forgot the main reason.

5. so when someone who really needs it tries to buy one I can charge them 1000 times what I paid for it.

The market dictates the price, I've bought boards that nobody wanted so I was able to acquire on the cheap i.e. $35-$50 said boards now go for about $300, I had my reasons for acquiring them none of which was to resell for a higher price.

Just because other folks had a stronger urge and desire to pursue this hobby when nobody else was interested and were able to get some great deals is no reason to accuse them of hoarding or deliberately trying to exploit the needs of other folks, this is after all a hobby and nobody is going to die if they don't have a PCB to complete a game.

lol, some of us have spent years tracking down games and working large buys and picking up games in the middle of summer, winter and sometimes the rain, I find it funny how someone who just now might have gotten into the hobby complains about the price they might have to pay for something that they are trying to purchase from the convenience of their computer chair. If someone wants to find a good deal then they need to go out there and put in the footwork to find them, buying online is like buying in a convenience store, who goes into a c-store and bitches to the cashier about the price of eggs (this question was rhetorical, I'm sure some of you do)?

I absolutely hoard.

I would LOVE to get everything working and slim down some spares to help others out, but it seems like time/desire/motivation gets in the way.

I used to spend hours and hours sitting amongst my pile o' crap immobilized by what to work on first. Then I would just say screw it and play a few games of whatever is working.

Now, I don't dedicate much time to it. Other stuff seems so much more important.

But maybe I'll get some ADD medicine soon and get motivated..

Lol,

If I help one person I'll consider this thread a success. Lol. I'm just kidding.... ;)

Look at all the crybabies in this thread.

Other collectors owe you nothing.
The world owes you nothing.

Nobody "really needs" arcade parts. This shit isn't life and death.

Well look at the bright side .....you could always make a business out of hoarding... arcade boneyard anyone?

If it wasn't for the few people that do the leg work to get into old warehouses and bulk buy boards and other parts, typically site unseen and or untested, most of the boards we have access to would have hit the trash decades ago. There are no ops spending their time trying to sell a single board to anybody, let alone posting to forums or replying that they have that one part that somebody needs.

The people that do this work and take the risk should be able to do what they want with the boards they purchase. The vast majority don't get hoarded and for that we are all lucky.

Im not even sure Im a collector. There are just a few games from my childhood I want and thats it. Once I have those I'll be done.

haha.. I love how defensive people get about this stuff.

Its right up there with bragging about how long you have been in the hobby and how cheap everything was back in the good ole days.

I've literally saved about 10 tonnes of NOS parts being tossed.

In fact, I have 4 pallets of NOS Sega parts coming in next week. About 1900 pounds.

Ironically, I've never actually met a true "hoarder" in this hobby. I've met plenty that think what they have is worth much more than I am (or any rational person is) willing to pay, but if I was willing to pay their price, they'd let the item go. I guess in that regard, I'm not a pure hobbyist either, since I'm always looking for value (as opposed to acquiring what I want at any cost)

I used to think that way too....then I kept adding more games and finding more room.

Sometimes a deal comes along and you just have to take it, and re-prioritize. I'm now out of room. I might be able to squeeze in one more, but it isn't going to be a nice fit. I've already got a couple projects in the works, and about to pick up some new ones, all to get one game that I really want.

I have bought $50 galagas, pacmans, mspacmans, and a dkjr for $50. In the last few months.

Your gonna piss people off with your jaded talk.

And then you can skip over those "hoarder" parts for sale threads. Only going to hurt your own rep with that crap.

Soup nassi parts ban for joo.

Another idiotic KLOV thread. LOL
Here's my 2cents. (As I would not want to be left out of the drama).

I have many games. Some in my arcade, some in my garage (waiting to be restored), and some in my storage unit (waiting to be fixed). I have many PCBs to support all my games (as backups etc). I have many extra parts to support those games needing to be fixed. Does this make me a hoarder?

I don't think so. So shove it ... :001_sbiggrin:

It's all a matter of perspective. If you look at my VAPS list, I really have a relatively small collection. But if you ask my wife, I'm a hoarder. :D It just LOOKS like a lot of stuff because we "agreed" that I'd keep all my arcade stuff confined to the garage, basement and workshop. No games allowed in the living room (yet). ;)

I wonder how many more new collector threads you can start that have not been started 1000 times before.

1. I traveled a long way for a machine.
2. Why do collectors horde\ overcharge.

Any others I missed folks?

That's kinda where I'm at but hey...you never know...

Don't tell me this.

Come to Illinois. Land of the hoarding and over-priced.

No way...I only drive as far as Denver for my crazy arcade hobby. :)

Gee wiz...sour grapes here. It's a free country and trust me.....stupid threads are not only in this public board or hobby. I see plenty over on my Camaro forums.
