Arcade games at theaters.

Here's the current state of my hometown theatre's game room:

I hope you aren't complaining. That right there is a better gameroom than 99% of the commercial gamerooms in existence present day.

You know what killed it and turned it into the decades-old dust covered gameroom that time forgot? They added new modern restrooms downstairs. They used to only have 2 small bathrooms upstairs, and you had to walk thru the game room to get to them. Now the general public has no reason to go up there. It's very sad. Even though the urine splashes on me like a thousand golden showers administered by the gods, I still use their old bathrooms up there. They have the old 5 foot high urinals that go all the way down to the floor.

RKO 10Plex in Paramus NJ had a decent arcade. Every saturday night without fail from probably late 1983 thru mid 1985 my friend Jimmy and I would go hang out there. We would catch a movie and then play arcade games till his dad or my grandmother would pick us up around midnight. it was a great time. The arcade at this movie theator had about 40 arcade machines. I played a lot of Marble Madness and Indiana Jones here. Also this was the only place I ever saw Cliff Hanger and Goal To Go laser disc games.

I never really used to play games at the theaters growing up, but I remember in Gilroy I played Gauntlet at the theater and remember how cool I thought it was that the guys would "spin" down the exit stairs. When I got older and started going to the movies with my buddies it was around '96 and we played the shit out of NBA Hangtime at the movie theaters in Folsom. Other than that, I always just got dropped off, saw the movie and left.

I grew up in Illinois........Two theaters come to mind for me. One was in the St. Charles Mall, remember Wizard of Wor and Wild Western. The second, Fox Field, had a Journey and a Arabian.....

I used to play many games at the Studio 28 in grand rapids (28 screen theater). They just closed it and I missed the auction. I am sure they had a bunch of games still in there. I remember playing time traveler, pole position, and ironman offroad quite a bit. They had 2 large areas set up for arcades, and I remember they had those big stupid virtual reality things when they first came out. Never played since it cost like 10 bucks.

Hey Todd, have you ever been to the Century Stadium 25 Theater in Orange next to the Honda center. They actually have a nice classic looking little arcade (maybe 20 games or so) in the theater.

Sure most of the games are shooting, driving and dancing but the still have a couple of new Stern pins and a DK, DK Jr and Mario Bros machine. They even get new machines now and then. Last time I was there they had H2Overdrive the Hydro Thunder sequel. It's worth checking out just for the nostalgia factor and you can go in without a movie ticket. I like going when I'm nearby just to play a little pinball.

I've not been there. I'll check it out next time I goto a movie at the theater. However, I think the last movie I saw in the theater was We Are Marshall. I have a short fuse with people talking, cell phones ringing and people talking IN the movie WHILE the movie is going, playing with PDAs and laptops, etc. I just can't take it. Oh, I also can't take having to watch 45 minutes worth of soda and cell phone ads before the 30 minutes of previews. Anymore, I wait for it to come out on DVD and more often, I just wait for it to hit movie channels.

I remember going to a movie theater at perring parkway in MD. that had a wizard of wor and a few others.

also moon cresta at a movie on york road in MD.

It was a double treat to play the game and see a movie like E.T or ROTLA.

games in theatre's

If I remember correctly I played time pilot at some theatre back in the late 90's and that got me wondering if I were to buy it for my apt that would be cool. but I didn't indulge in that til 07. Old school had to wait for the right time in my life where I could prioritize games over life's demands-bills. but that inspiration stuck with me..
