I know there aren't too many people into metal here on the forum, but I figured I would tell you guys that in this month's issue of Decibel magazine they did a "2009 top forty metal albums of the year" article thing in which my band (Javelina) was number 37 (hey, at least we placed).

I tell you this not to boast, but they also heard i restored and collected arcade game and asked me to do a "top five arcade games list" which i thought was odd, but i did it anyway. it's at least sort of comical i think.

so if you see the issue (Mastodon is on the cover) at the grocery store or something, pick it up and have a look. I wouldn't bother buying it if i were you guys, but i thought it was sort of cool to do and then see printed, so i figured i would make mention of it.

in case you don't see it (or care) here were my picks;
1. pac-man
2. Q*bert
3. Marble Madness
4. donkey kong
5. joust

I also wrote a brief statement for each, as to what made them cool. I tried not to pick any super obscure games and go with the classics so people reading it might know what I was talking about.

cool.

Everyone knows that mspac wore the pants, whats pac doing on top?

Maiden still is and always will be the top metal band.

metal and arcades go together like peanut butter and cocaine , smooth , heavy and will keep you going all night. my band likes the games I have in the garage

With that list of games its easy to see why the band is at 37.. :)

your wrong on so may levels.. a proper list would have:
1: pac-man(ms-pac should be #1, but if you want to go with what started it..)
2: galaxian (galaga.. See #1)
3: asteroids (I prefer asteroids deluxe or even better space duel, but asteroids is king)
4: donkey kong (You could go mario, but DK is best of the nintendos)
5: robotron (you could go with any of the classic williams in this spot, but robotron is the best)

I think a point could be made the list needs a driver. I would go with
pole position. there are much better drivers, but its the best of the 80's.

Cool man. I played in a lot of metal/hardcore bands over the years. I would get pumped when a magazine would give us a good review. To actually place on an official top 40 list is awesome! I'll have to listen to some of your stuff.

Dude if your band is mentioned in a mag with Mastodon the cover... You are heading in the right direction!

That's awesome Mike and congrats! I love metal but I love old-school metal in fact Megadeth is my favorite band! What instrument do you play? Guitar player, myself.....

Mastodon rules! Ive actually met all the dudes in the band. Bill is a big Ms. Pac fan. Very cool dudes, and amazing musicians. My band and I play a few Mastodon covers. Mother Puncher is a blast to play. Congrats on making top 40 dude!!!! that's awesome.

I'm in to Metal Lots of bands I could make a huge list most people probably would have never heard of.

I would say Gyruss, Contra, Asteroids Deluxe, Marble Madness, and Ms. Pacman are all games I listen to Metal while playing. I would have to argue that Gyruss is probably the best game to listen to metal while playing the fast pace of the game demands fast paced music.

Just listened. It's cool. Reminds me of bands like Torche, Soilent Green and Gehenna and even a little HHIG.

I'm diggin' the pac ghost tat on your right arm...

Anyone into hardcore metal (death/grind/etc) I'd suggest googling Javelina... it's pretty brutal stuff... :D

EDIT: Nevermind...I see he linked his myspace page above. Good shit. When you comin' to Idaho?

:D

It's good to see other metal dudes on here. My main hobby/ near profession for 12 years before I got hooked on these damn arcades was a death metal lead guitarist. We toured the West for a short stint. From Texas, Mexico, Arizona, New Mexico, Nevada, Cali etc...
We opened for and played with bands ranging from hard core death metal like Cannibal Corpse, Deicide, Nile, to old school thrashers like Testament, Obituary, Slayer to new metal bands like Machine head, Deftones, Static X. But, after so many years of eating peanut butter with your bare hands, getting a real career starts to look really good. I wouldn't trade any of the good memories for anything though. There's nothing better than hearing your own songs being played on the radio though. It's actually kind of an awesome feeling.

Kudos to the fellow metal heads on here!! :thrasher:
I like to listen to Razor (Canadian) and play Robotron, and I really want a pin that plays metal, and I would like to modify my LAH pin to play some Austrian Death Machine tunes.

well, one of my favorite bands is CROWBAR. this is where i came up with my screen name. i once saw them in Atlanta, and they opened for M.O.D. that Billy Milano is one carzy f***er!
