Arcade Games and Corners

I was re-organizing the arcade yesterday and decided to go with rows all the way to to corner like Gozer posted the pic of. I have two rows on opposite sides of the room going all the way to the back wall. Then 3 machines along the back wall with just enough space to squeeze a body in on the ends to play the games at the end of the long rows. I think this set up is actually giving me more usable space since there are no longer goofy rounded out corners from the games sitting at 45 degree angles in the corners. I'll post pics once I'm all finished (hopefully sometime this week)!

I like this thread and am now rethinking my corners. I didn't put a game in the corner but butt them up at 90 degree angles. I might try the 45 degree thing in at least one of my corners.

I did do one corner like this which created a really cool cozy nook for Toobin'. I'd love to play Toobin' with Phet someday in this corner.

I am not happy with this corner:

Round out the corner with 3 Atari games like Space Duel, Gravitar and Asteroids. The control panels are about the same height and makes a really cool effect.

space is really limited in my house i have to place games according to the amount of room needed to play all 1 player games get butted against a wall and i try to have 2 player games at open ends but no one ever comes over so i really dont know why i put the fucking effort in

First ... corners definitely suck.

Wouldn't it be nice to simply have walls that were 80 feet long that we could line up all of our games against?

Anyway ... in my world, I have limited space and had to jam Dig Dug up against the wall and then place DK against the other wall with just enough room for one person to squeeze in there and play Dug Dug.

It's not ideal, but it works OK. Here's a picture of people actually playing the games. You can't see him, but my friend Marvin is actually back there playing Dig Dug and the rest of us sort of have him boxed in.

As long as he doesn't mind playing Dig Dug all night (and he doesn't), it seems to work out OK ...

You know what sucks worse than corners?

Big Ass Picture Windows !!!

I tried 45 degree corners but it wastes a LOT of space and really only one person can play the 3 games... doing 90 degree corners like the picture above with the Dig Dug or BlkDog's Tubin' is definitely the best way if space is a concern. Some games have less depth than others, so I tend to put the more shallow game in the corner, and never a 2-player game.

The whole reason I started this thread was for my upcoming (now in place) Outer Limits wing. I wanted to touch on this topic again, because I actually found a solution not mentioned for these situations, and thought it might help someone lay their game placement out in the future. First, I tried the 45 degree angle game in the corner, but that didn't physically work at all. The game in the corner was unplayable, as the games that came up to it on either side blocked access to the front of it. Then I tried the run a row to the corner, leave space to play method that many mention in this thread:

I liked it, but I still wanted to try something else. I then tried a method not mentioned in this thread, the old '22.5 degree corner angle method. I think like it better, and I get the same number of games in the space, but the walls look more balanced, 3 games on one wall, 4 on the other, vs. 5 on one and 2 on the other:

Which layout do you think looks better? I am having a party in 2 weeks and wanna maximize the wow factor.

still like the first way better with Q-bert side to side with Tut. Makes it feel like that view next to it is a real port window me thinks.

After you said that, I looked again and you're right. Games get moved back this weekend. It actually makes the room look bigger.

I think I prefer the "run a row to the corner" method too. But what about sticking a cockpit like your PP in there?

At a 45 in the corner? I could try that I guess. May make the room seem really small and cramped, but who knows. I love moving these things around.

Nah... it looks like Qbert is having some issues and you've pulled it out to work on it a little or something.
