Arcade Games and Corners

What do you do? Angle a game in the corner, run one row all the way to the perpendicular wall and start the perp row further out (so the corner game can be played), or leave a giant empty space in the corner and have perp rows run into each other at the perp games' meeting corners?? Any other ideas? I hate corners.
 
I have the inverse of that problem: cyberball. Fits great in a corner, but requires space on either side. I guess it's more suited for an "island" of games or on the end of a row that ends in the middle of the room.

In best case scenario: try to avoid having a corner. But obviously in our little private gamerooms, we don't get much choice.

I've always thought the best way to arrange a corner is to let the two sides "meet" at the corner game. The corner game faces at 45 degrees out. Best if the corner game and the two that flank it are all one player games, so as to avoid too much man-ass from bumping together.

...wait a second, you're Phet, I've heard about you. Maybe man-ass is what you're after. :)

I do the corner game at about 45 degrees. I have them pretty close so that the corners of the control panels almost touch. Currently in the corners are Qbert and 720. I agree that corners suck!
 
Do what a lot of arcades did BITD, run the first set all the way down to the wall and start the perpendicular row over just enough to squeeze in front of the last game in the first row. That also gives you some wall space for that Farah Fawcet Headlight poster.

I'm saying this without ever trying it, but I would think a larger sitdown machine or cockpit type game might work out well in a corner.
 
Despite, my personal preference for the "angled" corner game, until last week I had my setup like Yellowdog's description. Except no nipples.

In the arcade I grew up near, the games came out from the wall to make a "corner" of sorts, and the space behind them was where all the dead games sat.

Dunno how many times I tried to squish between machines to see the hulks that sat gathering dust behind there. All I know is they never seemed to get fixed.
 
Right now I have a pin stuck in the corner at 45 degrees. It works pretty well--the front of the pin ends up more even with the front of the uprights, but I haven't decided if I'm actually saving space or not.

I've also layed out several variations of floorplans with to-scale models of arcade games and pinballs.
The ones that seem to work best at that 45 degree corner are stuff like 720, Return of the Jedi cabs, and various deep styles.

I have my Omega Race cockpit in the corner except 90 degrees to your SW orientation so it fits in with the wall run. Still gives enough room to get in the cockpit and play on either side. It is pulled out a bit from the wall it abuts.

Do you have a floor layout that you could post or maybe some pictures?

You might be able to do a back to back down the center of the room, that would get rid of the corners. The downside is you don't get to see all the games from the center of the room.
 
I have short endwalls so I just go perpendicular and that's it. I tried 45 degrees on the ends when I first moved all my games down there, and it made the room look really small. You may not have that problem(with longer walls?) I suppose it depends on the layout of the room whether it will look good or not. Short end walls, no 45's.

This is what I do. I use three walls of the garage for games, my pole position cockpit in one corner and my spy hunter cockpit in the other.
 
I have a Star Trek cockpit in one corner, much like the SW cockpit it allows easy in-out access. In the opposite corner I have a loveseat, facing the Discs of Tron. Another corner is the bar entry, the final corner has a showcase Soul Calibur III, so the corner isn't actually wasted, it's just FILLED.
