Arcade Game: Warrior

They had one at a Stardust bowling alley when I was in 6th grade. Thought it was super cool at the time.

Hard to find game.

I saw it only once. Fired it up in mame with the backdrop from mr do site last month. No sound but grandson enjoyed it

Played it long ago but always wished it had a one player mode.

I have to get out to Pinball PA to see it. I remember the real machine
experience being much more enriching than the Mame version (sound,
backdrop effects, etc).

There was one at CAX this year. Yes, I remember playing it in the early 80s. One of the most beautiful games ever made and the first fighting game. The interior art consists of about 9 fluorescent pieces that fit together.

The monitor is reflected in a mirror, like Asteroids Deluxe or Solar Quest. Side art was drawn by a comic book artist who I believe worked on Doctor Strange in the 70s. Also, the sound is pretty cool.

One of these days I hope to find one but they are not cheap.

Yeah, I can't imagine it would be very interesting on MAME. The entire draw for me is the mirror system or whatever used to give it that 3D feel.

There was some drama regarding the vectrex home brew Warrior project also (lolz).. but I got mine and its pretty slick. Excellent box! =D. Cool overlay.

Warrior is not without it's KLOV DRAMA. :)

Interesting timing on the creation of this new thread and VectorCollector's comments and link above.

I bought this game from Dale.

Given that he has sold so many games and presumably has many more to sell, I figured he wouldn't risk his reputation on misrepresenting a game.

I was wrong.

Not only did the game have *significant* water damage, beyond that even apparent in the photos, but he represented the game as complete and it wasn't. It is missing the speaker grill from the front of the game, the mirror, and one of the key interior fluorescent art pieces.

Not cool. On pricey titles like these, condition and completeness is key.

So I contacted Dale. He strung me along for many months saying that he would find the parts. He never did. He sent me random stuff twice, but that was a joke. Nothing he sent ever even matched the dimensions I provided him.

Eventually, I asked for a refund and to return the game. He refused.

So plain and simple: He ripped me off.

1. I have filed a police report.

2. Sharing the facts publicly for the benefit of others financial safety is done herewith.

3. Next is legal action. If awarded judgement as I expect, I'll have the funds seized directly from his bank account. I refuse to be cheated.

If you are thinking about working with Dale, I would suggest that you think twice.

Humm, I did not know it sold.
I do know digi-pics on the web never show the full details and "condition" is very subjective.
Sorry to hear it turned out sour. Sorry to open up fresh wounds ... :(

This is an ongoing problem. You're good, you didn't reopen anything. : )

The timing was interesting in that I had planned to wait until after Christmas to resume efforts, so your post was serendipitous.

Man, that sucks. Really sorry that happened.

Based on what I've seen over the years, he's got nothing to lose regards the reputation.

Me too.. im tring to get this guy i know ro re make the overlay wirh the castle and the pits..
Furys version is good but it could be better..
I agree the vectrex version is the shit i love it not to mention It is also a 1 player game unlike the arcade version

To the OP sorry to hear man. Im sure you put some serious coin down on it too.. good luck man i hope it turns out for you...

I played Warrior only a few times in the wild. It was at a Time Out at the Springfield Mall, Va. Very cool looking and sounding game to play. A buddy of mine had one in his collection a few years ago and it was pretty cool game to play again. The sounds from the Warriors fighting had an echo effect to simulate the inside of a castle (I assume). The game is fairly rare. I think he paid in the $2k range about 5 years ago and it was in decent shape.

The Vectrex homebrews are usually pretty good ports considering the limited technology. The Warrior version was absolutely shit compared to other ports. I think from the time I paid for it to when it was finally delivered it was nearly 3 years or so.

I read over that thread about the Dale/IdahoFarmer Warrior. Sucks man and sorry that there are a few bad apples like that.

I meant other games/ports. The Vectrex port of Space Fury was bad ass. Actually talks like the arcade. Defender is unbelievable. Kristof Tuts games are awesome. www.tofsnewvectrexgames.comli.com/

Yeah its called space frenzy.. i own that and y.a.s.i./protector (defender) . Yeah they are really good especially the overlays for those 2 games

The vectrex warrior is exactly like the arcade except sounds are different. Tim skelly also helped fury on the game.. also its 1 player which the arcade version is not... so you cant play the arcade unless u have 2 ppl.. there are also more warriors to go against then the arcade... i just jave to say tje vectrex version is far better then the arcade version. Its just smaller. Even plays just like the arcade.

That's good to know. Will have to find and copy that into the Vectrex folder on the Pi.
Thank you!

Update- Holy crap dude you win teh internets for the day. I didn't realize you could download a big list of homebrews for free.
Warrior on Vectrex is fun, and that opponent is tricky to figure out. Cool sounds.
