Arcade Game Trade Advice

What is so bad about them? The control scheme? The small monitor? The large footprint? Personal bias?

a lot of people hate them for the controls. due to the vertical layout rather than being flat. personally, i like it. it was really tough to play at first when i got my dk cocktail, but you get used to it. like i've told others, the way i play is with the fingertips of my left hand on the knob of the joystick, and i wrap my right hand around the right side of the control panel with my right thumb for the jump button, with my hand in kind of a handshake position.

it's fun to play. it is a smaller monitor, but it's really not that noticable. unlike other cocktails, like midway ones, it's insanely easy to service. i think the only downside of them is that the body is metal, so you could potentially get one with some dents, etc.

i would say you should try out the cocktail out and see how you like it. i got mine as it was available and less expensive for me to acquire than an upright, which always seem to command buku bucks around here.

edit - i would definitely trade the 9-1 for it. dk cocktails don't command big bucks, so that's definitely more of an even trade.

There's no question that the tables have that extra bit of nostalgia from seeing them in restaurants, bars, even in Chuck E Cheese in the "older people room where they had the big screen TVs." It's impossible to look at a table without thinking it ought to have a plate with a couple slices of pizza on top of it. And a Coke in one of those ruby plastic tumblers.

Tables involve more floorspace, they're tougher to get at when making repairs, and as mentioned, the CP on the DK table is no fun. The Nintendo tables are less playable and more for show... but they're among the least interesting looking tables too. Nostalgia aside, I'd pass on the DK table.

But if you're going the heartstring route, it's a no brainer. Keep the EA and trade the 9-in-1 for the DK. And then order some pizza.

That sounds like a good day. Keep one, trade one, get one, have pizza and a coke whilst playing it. That makes me smile wider than Fritz can open his mouth.

here's a pic of mine. lots of fun to play. i actually do better on it than i do on uprights as of late.

You know the EA will be MAMEd or Multi'd if you let it go, so get rid of the Multi so that there will be no destruction of a great game...

Yep. I have seen it for a while too, but now he's up for trades rather than trying to get his $550-600 clams. I was intrigued, as I need to make space in the gayrage and get a DK in the basement.

Go for it Shawn. If it seems to be a good deal for you! I know you've been talking about DK as of late here for a while :)

The other thing you might consider is that, if you look at posts on DK board issues, the evidence seems to establish that the 4 board sets (cocktail) are not as stable as the 2 board sets (later model uprights).

I have one of each, and harnesses for both styles.

I loved the fact that I wore a Giants hat to an A's game...and was on TV the whole time.

Joe Mauer is even more handsome in real life, BTW. I love him.

I have a DK JR cocktail and I like it a lot. It's nice to have a couple chairs next to for additional seating and it's a lot more social to sit across from each other and play. However, space isn't really an issue for me in my gameroom, I have tons of room to go.

I have an upright DK, and the controls on the cocktail are worse, but definitely usable. It's not like you're going to be playing this game for the world record, right? You're going to play a game or two, shoot the shit with your friends, and have fun. Go for it.
