Arcade game regrets or remorse

forgot this one until someone mentioned pinball.

A friend of mine had not one but two Attack from Mars he wanted to sell that were all there and worked but had faded art etc.

I passed at the time.. pretty sure those would be worth 3 or 4 times what he was asking now. If I fixed them up with new art probably allot more.

Warrior. Traded it away for Star Wars + Defender + cash if I remember right. I've had a bunch of Star Wars and Defender games since then. Never had another shot at a Warrior. And I randomly got it for free at a garage sale.

Sold off a Quantum and Major Havok about 10 years ago for a fraction of what they're selling for today. Both games are terribly over hyped, I never thought people would be so stupid that they'd pay the kind of money they do now for such shitty games.

Scarcity is a bitch.

I'd be willing to pay market for Quantum or MH, as long as they were original and not repros.

Puts me solidly in the stupid category I guess. :)

I wish I had never sold my Double Dragon, Rastan and Popeye cabinets. That Popeye was super clean. Sadly, no, it is not still available. :(

i refuse to accept this

Only one really. I picked up a Super Sprint on an opportunity I couldn't pass up. But once it showed up, I underestimated how huge it was and new it wouldn't fit in my home very well...so I put it on location at my business/retail store.

It freaked me out to have a game, much less a medium res monitor on location and I ended up selling it to Steve @ grinkers. I have had more customers ask about where that game went and wish that I still had it in the store.

I should have kept it. :-/

This was probably around 10+ years ago. I had a Star Castle for sale and someone that came to look at it got infatuated with some of my other games. A Star Wars cockpit. Star Trek cockpit and Environmental Discs of Tron. He kept offering me more and more money for them (over a period of weeks) He would call every couple of days. Finally I caved in at $4000 plus an upright Joust and Star Wars (he gave me those games plus the money for my three).

That was a heck of a lot for those games then. I don't regret it because they are now a lot more valuable or rare. They where all just games I really liked.

I bought a Warlords CT really cheap and passed it on to a member here who was obsessed with getting one. I never even played it. Now I kinda wish I'd given it a chance in the game room - especially since they go for extra stupid money now.

I regret selling my EDOT, and Joust. I purchased them from an operator 20 years ago for $300 total. Had to sell them to buy my now wife an engagement ring one year later. I bring it up on a weekly basis.

For arcade games it would have to be the complete non-working Paperboy I had. I sold it for $150 I believe 8 or 9 years ago and at that price I even made money on it from what I bought it for. I never really even tried to fix it, I had so many games back then. From what I was told, it was not a hard fix to get working. I know it went to a good home and got a fantastic restoration, but boy would I like a Paperboy and no way I am paying the prices they go for now.

For pinball machines, hands down it was my Congo. I liked Congo when it wasn't cool to like it and bought one for $1000 and put some work into it. Ended up selling it for $1500 to another good home when I needed money and space to buy The Shadow. I sold it too cheap at the time to be a nice guy and have quick sale, but by today's prices I gave it away. Much like Paperboy, I would love a Congo again, but no way I am paying $3500+ for one...it's not that good.

Had the chance to get a Gorf for $150, but since I didn't have anywhere to store it, I passed. A few weeks later, I realized I could have shoved it in my shed for two years, which ended up doing with a Missile Command I later found.

Had a Capcom Q25 in my garage that belonged to a friend and the monitor had stopped working on it, and it was partially disassembled. I also had a Dynamo HS-x (I think it was an HS-5) with Capcom vs. SNK 2 in it, that the same friend had abandoned at a former employer of his who I sometimes did IT work for, and who called me to come pick it up one day. The Dynamo/CvS2 was fully working. Both were being stored in my garage, at a house my wife and I were renting. When we bought a home and it was time to move, I made him come take them back. I won't go into the details on the fate of either, but they both scattered to the corners of the earth, never to be seen again. Wish I had had as much passion and even been half as knowledgeable as I am now, those 7 years ago. They would both be in my collection and working now. :001_scry:

Should have contacted more local OPs and bought more CLASSIC games back in the 90's. :(

Should have stocked up on more vector monitors, pcbs and parts etc. :( :(

[hoarder mode] LOL

About 2 years ago I passed on a nice complete paperboy control panel for about $350... I thought that was crazy... And still think it's crazy... But in hindsight I continue to kick myself...

I passed on a very nice, fully working Attack From Mars pinball game on an op raid for $2,100. I had the cash money in my pocket and a vehicle with me that could haul it. This was about 5 years ago when AFM were already selling for over $5,000. What was I thinking? I called back 24 hours later and the game was sold.

A year later, I drove 9 hours one way to buy another AFM, in not as good condition, for $2,900 (still a good deal, but not as good as what I passed on).
