Arcade game regrets or remorse

I may also have a future regret of trading my Space Zap for a Joust...just haven't posted a WTT yet.

Not too many regrets. But if I had to choose, probably not being more aggressive on buying in the beginning. The one game that still stings is a $75 BattleZone I turned down, complete, monitor issue, nice looking. :(

Another regret is posting all of my vectorized art on the library for all the inkjetters to make money off of. Also, for a certain blog to totally shat upon one of my pieces even though I had a 72 dpi original to work with and there was nothing better out there at the time.

might explain why i never sold a game since i started in this hobby 4 years ago. [scared of seller regret/remorse].

gave one away [sega turbo cockpit] never missed or cared for it :)

Oh jeez, we're gonna start needing a support group section soon.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! Well played, and Rep'd!!

...biggest regret, not getting into the hobby earlier when things were priced lower, but then again you old timers had a lot harder time finding parts to make repairs...

I gotta say this. ^^^

If only I'd gotten to the owners of those Odyssey cabinets sooner.

I could have had most of them, and at least gotten some of them working. But oh well. I got Pole Position, and got it running good thanks to the help here and on AHA.

I had Lunar Lander and Paddle Battle for years..... but didn't have a clue that this was an actual "Hobby" until about 5-6 years ago. I lurked a bit before actually making an account, and found information on fixing Lunar Lander's throttle problem. I bought from Bob Roberts before I even had an account here. :D Just because you guys had mentioned him in a post.

So far my only regret is not buying some of the games on my list earlier. Back when I first got involved in the hobby I was really broke and back then you could pick up a Donkey Kong or a Paperboy for $250 easy. I would always pass on deals like that thinking I would just get it later. Stupid me. I really had no idea things would go the way that they did. Everyone that came over back then thought I was dumb for collecting these things. I would often get comments like "I can just play those on my PC with MAME" or "Why don't you just build a MAME cabinet?". Before I knew it, interests rose and so did the prices. You can still find deals out there though for sure.

Just not much when it comes to the ones on my list. hahah

1) Not buying a lot more parts when they were dirt cheap...

2) Not buying several games dedicated because they were "Too Expensive" (I'm looking at you Dedicated MH for $700)...

3) Selling both my Bosconians...

When I first started collecting, I was a broke ass. (now I am just an ass). I grabbed any and everything from the bottom. I had a haul once from an auction of 8 games on my truck; 8 turds but I had a tonne of parts. Anyway, my point is I have sold a few games that I seriously regret because I needed cash.

1. Burgertime. This did go to a friend in the hobby, so I am like 90% regretting this sale. I picked it up in a bulk deal. Burgertime, DK3 and some lame redemption game. I sold the DK3 after fixing the monitor, trashed the redemption game (I think - dont remember) and kept the BT

2. Candy Cab. - Also in a bulk deal. Had Uo Poko in it for years. I needed cash fast and sold it super cheap.

3. Pacman with "MadPac" in it. Cant regret this one too much because I used the 900 (yes, 900!!) I got for it and bought a digital SLR at Costco.

4. Mappy. Lame game but fun. Always a party fav and a really cool cabinet.

I am older, have a way better job, not living paycheck to paycheck - everything is way overpriced (IMHO). I'd rather drop 3k on something for the house or just leave it in the bank.

Tom

you would rather earn .5% interest in the bank? I would say putting your money in a pin is a better choice than that. If you have good taste, take care of it, and don't over pay, its hard to loose money.

most regrets are from not buying things. Left a dedicated MH in a operators warehouse(brought home a space duel cocktail over it). left a 2 player computer space(could not reach it easily), left a tailgunner 2 (could not reach it easily), passed on medieval madness at $5k, passed on monster bash at $4k, passed on circus Voltaire at $3500, passed on Addams family at $1600.

I think a bigger regret is not buying the house I was renting in SF when I was going to college. I could have put 75 games in the ground floor garage! 1984 home price in SF is probably 1/3 of what it goes for today.

I regret selling my dedicated Mr. Do CT. I was laid off two weeks after buying my house and needed the money. This was in the RGVAC days. I wish I remembered who bought it as I would offer a lot to have it back.

I sold a bunch of working Atari cone buttons. I kept a few and probably won't need them but I regret not having them now.

I regret selling my Toobin, dedicated Crystal Castles, and STUN runner. I had listed Toobin and STUN runner (needed the space) and the buyer got up here and started hitting me up about the Crystal Castles. I didn't want to sell it, but he gave me a package price that was ok and I couldn't even play my games at the time :/

4. Mappy. Lame game but fun.

I regret selling a Joust, which was first ever dedicated game I owned. (MAME machine was my gateway drug into this hobby)

At least it went to Steve, though... (IdahoFarmer)

I also regret selling my Space Wars. Never thought I'd sell it, but needed the money and space at the time. Story of most of our lives. :(

I sold my first ever game i got when I was like 15 or something. Was a rally x that was playing blind for 75 DAMN DOLLARS. Threw in a cap kit and flyback and was golden. Good god I got such a good deal on that, not a day goes where i don't kick myself for selling it. Loved the game too, dont recall why i sold it.

That's a lot of bad moves.

That's sickening. How long ago was that?

That was way back around 94-95. I was buying pins for $1k or less. I had just gotten tz, World Cup, judge dredd, bk2000, de Star Wars, for $1k or less. Thought I would pass on af thinking it would continue to drop. Oops.

Oh yeah. My first game was a Bubble Bobble. Bought for $75, sold for the same.

Arcade game regrets stories? I have tons of stories of arcade machines and arcade people...

I use to post about them but most people don't care...
I use to speak about them at arcade shows but who wants to hear that stuff when your having fun.

Sometime the past just need to stay in the past. I rather concentrate on the present and the future.

Really only had two regrets that come to mind.... I had sold star wars and robotron on the same day. Went 2 years with out them then regretted it too much that I tracked them both down and replaced them with the same week. Won't make that mistake again till I sell everything.
