I think about this a lot, as I always try to come up with an idea for a new arcade game title based on subjects I think are cool or think might have been popular back in the 80's. The 2 that pop in my head all the time are:

-Vortex
-Nightmare

I know that Tempest was slated to be named Vortex, but I still think this title should have been represented in arcade form at least once, as it is a bad-ass name that screams Space Arcade Game to me. What other words/names would have made excellent arcade game titles?

Deep Space?

I still say there should be a Stand Up Comic arcade game where people tell jokes into a mic on the CP with a view of the crowd on the monitor either enjoying or heckling. Not sure how to do all the joke interpretion stuff but I would leave that to smart people....

STARWISP - Game set up to send a probe into galaxies to collect items that can be used to enhance your ships power so you can defeat enemies in conflict.
ASTROGATE - Game based on chosing the best route through galaxies (compensating for gravitational pulls, meteoroid fields, and other obsticles) If you survive the travel, then you do battle with alien monsters
FRAK-OFF - Battlestar Galactica theme game along the same lines as Lesuire Suit Larry

LONG DUCK DONG! - You control the "donger" while he trys to get to the prom, party and then get home.

BATTLEZONE II - Two BZ cabs hooked together for some head to head vector tank action!

There was a game developed called Nightmare but it only got out in prototype form. There was one at CAX, I think owned by Scott Evans. Pretty fun gameplay. The developer (who also made Ms. Pac) was there and talked about it. Apparently it originally had buttons that looked like eyeballs and the controller was a human skull. But the proto that was there was missing those features, unfortunately.

The game play was pretty interesting though. Would probably have been even better if you are on drugs.

I was wondering how many replies it would take for this thread to go snarky.

I can't believe it made it to 6!

("Price Police" is my favorite, especially because it could conceivably be some shitty game that actually existed)

Master Bait / fishing game

Pongsturbation / Ok I stole that from an actual Gamemaker game

Polybius II: The Second Seizure

Road Rage

Dragon's Lair III: Daphne Get's Fat and Old - The Quest for Viagra!

Miami Cannibal Rampage

Dawn of the Dead / why nobody has ever made a Smash TV-like zombie game is beyond me

Tempest II: Tournament Edition / Dual screen, simutanious two-player where you shoot at each other from both ends of the playfield

Mortal Celeb-u-tard / Fighter game where the characters are Hollywood trash like Lindsay Lohan, Bobby Brown, Lady Gaga

LOVE the Battlezone II multi-player idea!
