Arcade "Feel" or Best Use of Space?

Hey Frizz, Here is the other side of the coin.

I just did the opposite with my basement. I got tired of the claustrophobic, bottleneck-inducing island of games in the middle of my space and I love it. So much more space, it is easy to move around, you can hold more people, and see what they are up to as well. A large open space serves as a nice gathering spot to socialize as well. I assume you don't play games every minute you are in there. Gotta take time to talk about games too!

Think this one over before you commit. If you like to have people over to play your games, it looks like things might get a little cramped around that island. It will feel more like an arcade, but I don't really think that not being able to move about freely was the best part of going to an arcade BITD. Also, if your friends are like mine, they are lazy and like to play sitting down, that means barstools all over the place. Put one of those between Pole Position and the island and now you have closed it off completely.

Looks like you have a bit of versatility now with that big work area in front of the garage door as well. Possibly to aid working on vehicles? Also do you really want your workbench in the carpeted part?

Another Cool thing is being able to sit at the "counter" and look around and see all the games on at once :) The more you close off, the less games you can see at one time.

PS I need that Race Drivin model!

I like the arcade feel of it. Most of your arcades in the 80's had your Rows of games . 10 or more in each Row.

How do you do the layout pics?

My game room has 3 Rows and a couple of games on the side.

I like islands and close rows of games. Where you turn around and there's another game to play.

Also, My favorite arcades were the ones where your favorite games were buried in the back and you could sort of hide out and play games. Something special about that to me. A complete escape from reality I guess. LOL

What he said I love my island turn the corner and what will be there? People come over and are excited to see my arcade. Once they get in they say something t like you have qbert, cool pacman, when they walk around the island it always oh man battlezone! It's a rush and more like a true arcade IMO. Your on the right track go with your gut feelin and change it up. I knocked out a wall in mine and it was well worth the time and money. I think it would be something you would enjoy even more if it was all one big room. Again IMO, Look forward to a new video!

I like your new layout. It's cool to move the TV and work area to the smaller room and just have video games in the larger one.

Yep, Islands rule.

The best I can do now is a peninsula, which I also like:

I wanted to see what I could do if I modified the wall that is in there...

Perhaps a bar?

Hmm... a little too cramped with the loss of the wall space.

Then I removed the wall completely... of course the layout I prefer best requires the most work... grrr...

...it's just so... much... work...

:(

You should move the wall and put it around the work area. Hide that stuff and it will look even better!

Then all you need is Phet to design some signs...

The wall was added by the last owner so it COULD come out... but I sort of like the wall as it allows me to heat/cool each area as necessary. I considered punching out the top part and making it a bar between the two sides... but then that takes away from game space...

I can't tell too easily, but it looks like all the unmoveable stuff is near the entrance or that main wall in the top left. Just make that the work area, then build a wall out of the games in front of all that shit, so you can walk behind it, and then the games create a new wall in front of it.

If it were me - I would try and get the pins along the wall in the small room, and put the dart board against the top wall. That way - you can have the length of the wall to play darts.

The bigger room seems like it would allow for more games to fit in with those pins in the other room and you could put an island/peninsula down the middle of the room.
