So I was going to wait until it was all finished before I did my unveil but I am so excited I cant contain myself. For a long time (since about 1992) I always thought it would be really fun to own and operate an arcade. However life had different plans for me.
Well fast forward to 2011 and my childhood dreams are slowly becomming a reality. I have been given the use of a 19.1'x30' space located next to a small mom and pop gas station here in Anchorage to start my arcade. Its not huge but it will look great when I am done.
Its a huge work in progress. I will post pictures as I go along. The space used to be part of an old huge car wash bay. It was framed off a couple years ago into its current size. That is all the further they got. Then progressively for months it got filled with more and more junk until there was no more room. Thats when my broke self found the space and stepped in. I asked the owner what his plans were and he had only one. To make extra cash.
Ok so the first step was to clean out all of the crap that was in there. That took 3 days of backbreaking work and now all that is left is the sheetrock, some insulation, and 4 games I dropped off that were in storage, a Pole Position, 19" Dynamo that was a tetris, a Roadblasters, and a Dynamo 25" hs9a cabibet.
So what, you ask, is the plan of attack? Well the floor is concrete and is tapered (sp) to allow water to drain so I need to completely relevel the floor with concrete patcher. This is my first time attempting such a feat. Then I will start putting in the needed electrical (sometime in the next 3 days) and then move on. I will then start insulating and hanging sheetrock.
I had a hard time picking colors however for some reason red stuck out in mind. So I have decided on going with a Behr Grenadine Red for the walls with some black crown molding as accent. I will paint both interior doors black and once that task is completed I will get some help starting fabrication on a front counter/display case. I have $300 in hand to get started (which was loaned to me).
The sheetrock and concrete patcher were provided to me already as the owner was going to do some of those things himself but his schedule got busy and he was unable. So my plan is to have about 20 machines and one pinball to start (possibly more if space permits).
So yeah I am mostly broke and people have donated a lot of materials to me which I am greatful for. So maybe later today i will post pics of a leveled but wet concrete floor? lol
