Hey guys,

I am in need of some expert advice. I currently own a Dynamo cabinet with a 19" monitor that houses my SFII Hyper Fighting that I have owned for 2 years and put in a lot of time and money to restore.

A few days ago, I came across a chap selling the same style Dynamo cab with Super Puzzle Fighter II and houses a 25" Screen. The cab itself is in excellent condition along with the screen. I have been playing with the idea of selling my cab and picking this one up, but I'm not too sure if it's wise to pick this up for the extra 6" of screen, given that I have to repurchase and re-do all the original artwork. The chap is asking $450 for the cab. I figured, I could sell the Puzzle Fighter 2 board for $100 at least making the price of the came a bit more reasonable. Just not sure what to do at this point. I have always wanted a cab with 25" screen though.

What do you guys think I should do?

Thanks :)

Sounds like you're interested enough in a 25" cabinet that you really do want it. Get it and be done with it. Good luck

If it's in good condish' and the monitor isn't shit, it's worth it...I would definitely sell Puzzle Fighter and make some money back on it. Maybe see if you can get it for $400...that seems pretty reasonable for a GREAT condish' Dynamo.

are you really sure you can't just buy a 25in monitor and put it in your cab? Then all you would need to change is your bezel. Sounds like he has the exact same cab. I believe these were designed to pretty easily accommodate either a 19 or 25in monitor.

I'm sure I can fit a 25" monitor on my cab but it would involve cutting inside the can and trimming to make it fit. Add to that the price of a new 25" monitor and might just be cheaper to sell mine and purchase this other one.

Nothing is really lost, other than I have to repurchase and reapply the artwork and the new cab will look just like my old one. Only problem I see is if I can't find a seller for my existing cab, I could potentially be stuck with 2 which could be a problem.

I know the puzzle fighter cab your talking about. It looks like its in pretty good condition. I say buy it.

maybe offer him $300 and let him keep the game to sell seperately.

Depends on where you are but good condish you could probably get $200-350 for your cab depending on what game you throw in with it.

Yeah I was hoping for $350. Cab will come with SFII Hyper Board.

Its in really nice condiion but given that I am in toronto, canada. Selling it could be tough :(

With regard to the common "cut-corner" Dynamo cabinets:

19" Dynamo cabinets = HS-1 and HS-2 (e.g. Ikari Warriors).

25" Dynamo cabinets = HS-5 (e.g. SFII: CE)

They are not the same. They look similar, but the HS-5 is a couple of inches wider than the HS-1 and HS-2 (30" vs. 28"). You may be able to stuff a 25" monitor into an HS-1 or HS-2 if you do some cutting, but it would be a kludge.

SFII bezels have lines marked on the back to trim them for a HS-1 and HS-2 or an HS-5 cabinet. Once you have trimmed one for a 19" cabinet, you can not then trim it for a 25"; though you could trim it for a 19" cabinet that has been hacked to accept a 25" monitor, but there wouldn't be much left of the bezel after that.

Not really...I could use a Dynamo, but I don't want the board(s). Need a 2P capable cab for my vertical games, current one too narrow.
Was going out to Peterborough for one, but the seller wound up deciding to keep it.

If you can't find a buyer for complete within a few weeks, and know what you'd want for just the cab with monitor (You can keep your joys and buttons if they're not Leaf...I detest microswitch) then drop me a PM.

P.S. Locals...

Thank you for the quick lesson regarding the Dynamo cabs Maxim. Great information :)

He beat me to it. But maybe you should check out this site.

As for whether to buy the cab, maybe you should post a pic. Assuming the cab you are looking at is an HS-5, its nice because you can slide out the drawer in the front to swap out other pcbs, or B boards on the CPS-IIs. Very nice. HS-5s are my favorite cabs. But you can get a 25" monitor to work in yours. A pic of both cabs would help greatly. HS-5 drawbacks and things to look out for. The HS-5 is somewhat heavier than the HS-1 or 2 you have now. I would guess 50-75 lbs at least. Also, some are nicer than others. Some may have the power supply mounted mid cab towards the the back with a push button on/off switch on the right side. Others may just have a standard switcher mounted to the pull out tray. These take up valuable space in your tray so the cab mounted is preferable. It can leave you room to mount a second PCB or even a small stereo amp. Pull out the tray when you inspect. Look at the wiring as many have been hacked up pretty badly. Look at the backside of the control panel for the same reason. A butchered up CP could cost as much as a hundred for a used replacement when you can find them. Some HS-5 are straight on the side. Others have the monitor section with blue, red, or grey extra top sections. The two part cabs are more prone to separate from my experience. I hope that helps and makes sense. I'm no expert on the HS-5s but I do own 5 hs-5s and 2 HS-1s.

More great information. Thanks Black Matrix:)

I went back to relook at the cab yesterday for peace of mind and it's in really good condition externally and very very clean on the inside. I couldnt believe in how good of shape it's in. The only thing that I did not like was the fact that the monitor had a yellow tinge to it. Not sure if this is cause for concern or if there's a way to adjust it. I compared it to an HDTV that has settings for warm, and cool colours. I find it to be rather warm where my cab's monitor is cool, if I am making any sense.

I don't think you will have any problems selling it for that price. there was a guy selling the same cab as yours for $700 firm on kijiji. He told me he got a lot of offers for $600 (his original asking price)

so if you're looking to sell it at a reasonable $350 I think it will sell fast.

I forgot to add that if the cab you're looking at is a HS-5 with slide out drawer then you really should get it. the slide out drawer is the best. I have one and I love it. I managed to mount a cps2 motherboard (that has X-men vs street fighter) and another pcb (splatterhouse) on the drawer. the drawer makes it really easy to switch between the two, and really easy to change out cps2 games. Love the drawer.

I'd personally keep the 19" if I spent alot of time and funds making it nice. Less backaches moving it around also. $400 isnt off the wall for a 25", but if it needs a cap job or whatever else, I'd talk him down.

Unfortunately it does not have the slide out drawer. It's just like mine where the control panel is attached to a board that sits diagonally inside the cab and thats where everything is mounted.

As far as the cap kit goes, is it expensive and difficult to do? Mine had all the caps replaced by the person who sold me the cab so I would have no idea where to start.
