AKA Sundance Controversy - The Game

A couple of days ago, I managed to track down a highly rare flyer for the game "Arcade Bandit and the Raiders of the Lost Bar." It appears that the game is based upon the whole Sundance controversy unfolding here on the forums. Check out the bottom of this post for a scan of that flyer.

Anyways, after days of laborious effort, I located and dumped the roms for this game onto my computer. After writing a quick emulator program to run the game, "Arcade Bandit and the Raiders of the Lost Bar" is now 100% ready to play. I would highly recommend watching the entire 60-second attract mode. It gives specific instructions on how to play.

Here is the link to download this game if any of you are interested in playing it: (This is the latest version, bugs have been fixed!)

CONTROLS:

5 Key - Insert credit
1 Key - Begin playing
Arrow Keys - Movement
Esc Key - End game
F1 Key - Game information
F4 Key - Minimize screen

The basic goal of the game is to collect all the tokens in the abandoned building. Then, once that is done, collect the Sundance cabinet to move on to the next stage.

Here are some screenshots: (NOTE - the game plays in fullscreeen, but I shrunk the images down to 33% here.)

And the flyer:

Enjoy!

PM sent. I made this with the program GameMaker 7 Registered.

That would be amazing!

Awesome! You need a stage where you fight off other colletors, then one where you have to hide from the police!

I was originally going to create multiple stages, but that would have taken me about 3 more days per stage. I wanted to catch up on all the hype before it died down! :D

how hard is gamemaker to use
im dling gamemaker 8 and like 400 gmk tuts right now lol

GameMaker isn't too difficult at all. The cool thing about it is that you can make pretty much any 2-d game you like without using a single line of code. I personally like to use a little bit of code for extra efficiency. I made this game in about 3 days, working about 4 hours per day, and have been using GameMaker for probably 3 or so years.

Sounds like E.T. for the 2600, where you spend most of your time in a hole. :D

Great job, Hyde. This is an instant classic thread (and game.)

I'm going to make a dedicated machine out of this game....Now I've just got to find a cabinet! Anyone know where I can get one for free? I'd prefer it be in a neutral location and it be up for grabs to anyone. Also any drama that can be added is a plus...makes me appreciate the game that much more. Please PM me in all caps if you know where I can get one.

I'd love to see this new classic be at CAX next year. Only thing it is missing is some different levels or to have intermissions. I am going to download the software this week and play with it. I can see a new obsession happening. LOL

Ok this was pretty creative and humorous. I kept wondering why you put so much effort into the game flyer earlier and now I know why. Good job.

One more thing. Don't forget what happened to the Ark in Raiders.....I hope it doesn't go that way....

That is fricken awesome! I think I'll make a bartop for of it too.

Hyde you have to add some complexity to this baby. This could be the start of a sweet little game.

If I had only a smidgen of talent...

Well, it looks like this game is not finished after all! By popular demand, I think I'll add some different levels to this game. Anyone have any suggestions for more content? Keep in mind that each additional level type will take about 2-3 days to create.

No Mac version. :(

Sorry about that. :( But I don't think there is a way to convert an exe file to Mac.

If you want an element of authenticity then you must have a jukebox that falls on the guy at some point. Oh, and this should probably slow him down for a while due to the minor injury that results.

Do a Robotron-style stage where rats are coming out and he has to maneuver around and shoot them all.

How about an intermission where he gets on an online forum to talk about getting it - which leads to a level where he has a "flame war" of some sort with various keyboard commandos. He could have a flamethrower, and has to destroy keyboards thrown at him from the "bad guys"....

My two cents:

Add some traps that involve holes in the floor or a crazy old dewalt saw or beat up player piano. Rats, bats, mice you name it for random enemies.

Can you tweak/improve the drug guys AI? Lengthen the time a bit?

How about a level boss thats the owner of the property?

Add the ability to enter your initials without needing a keyboard?

Deadly meth fumes roaming the area?

Man I could go on and on. What a hilarious idea for a game. Hell you even got alot of the artwork for the cab made. Perfect!
