Arcade Auction Broomall Pa April 9th

<snip>
The funniest part was the 12 year old kid who raised his hand to buy one of the air hockey tables for $10 and when the auctioneer said he turned around and ran.

That was too funny - he ran over to his dad, who wasn't paying any attention (obviously having no interest in air hockey tables) and dad was none too pleased. Pretty funny.

The Pachinko guy never showed and makes us look bad.

Another guy from York good friend of ours and auction vetern said he was bringing a bunch of pins and a few skee balls. he strolls in empty handed and says sorry no one to load for him this morning. people were counting on the pins we listed and the skee balls.
Cant be mad because he is a little old man but come on.

So after the auction Lou and I discussed not to post what people say their bringing because people travel great distances for specific games and we look like the asses.

Never the less we had to of had a solid 450 pcs at the auction.

I think you're right to stop posting what people say they are bringing. There's too many things that can change on the fly with people. It's too bad, I'd have probably bid (and lost) on a skee ball.

And thanks, by the way, for not charging for a bidder card - I was only bidding on one piece (and I knew I wasn't likely to get it), so it was nice to not be out any money when I didn't get it.

Was the bid considered binding? I mean, the kid was 12...

No. I don't think the auctioneer realized it was a kid until he asked for the kid's number and the kid ran for his dad. Dad wasn't having any of it (dad sure didn't participate in the auction!), and the auctioneer just restarted and sold the table to someone else for $10. The kid, obviously, wasn't really allowed to bid, so it just turned into head-shake for rest of us.

Most of the videos were going for next to nothing. Great value there, lots of happy people. Sure, there was the occassional Neogeo for 400 type thing, but for the most part, stuff was cheap. They actually had some decent working classics... a couple of Donkey Kongs, Pacs, Ms Pacs, lots of Capcom and Namco fighters going super cheap.

The auction needs more support to stay afloat, from both buyers and sellers. Harrisburg is probably not going to happen anymore (unfortunately), so this will be the only regular game auction north of the Mason-Dixon, and Jamie and Lou seem pretty determined to make it work. If you live MD or northeast, unless you want to burn gas at $4 a gallon to get to NC or TN, (talking 7-8 hour drive from Baltimore one way) this is the auction for you.

I will be bringing some pinballs to the next Lou auction in June. Whatever I have left from Allentown will end up here, so you can bet on a better selection of pins.

They'll have an easier time if Harrisburg doesn't happen again (I see that it isn't on AGS's schedule - did they say they wouldn't do another, or what?). I think Lou probably needs to find yet another space - the roller rink was kinda neat (and having access to semi-real food at the concessions was nice), but the lack of outlets was a real problem. I also don't think the auction could get too much bigger in that space.
