When I was a kid, the sights and sounds of arcades really stuck with me. The arcades that I attended were always dark and cramped. Amongst the midi tones, laughter and chatter bumped a myriad of 80's and 90's tunes in the background.

Even today music tends to "take me back".

I liked the scene in Tron Legacy where Flynn's son ventures into the arcade and Journey begins blarind on the jukebox along with the machine coming to life.

I was more of a U2 guy.

What about you. What sorts of tunes or other bits of ambience do you bring to your arcade?

I have about 8 CDs of 80s music I play in my gameroom. Everything from Rush to Madonna, from Aldo Nova to Kiss, a very large span. The smell of pizza always reminds me of the roller rink we frequented. They had about a dozen games against the back wall.

A roller rink. I knew your arcade was missing something John.

The smell of pizza at the roller rink.. that's awesome.

My first machine was cocktail table.. I used to tug on dad's pants in a smokey old dingy red roof pizza hut for the priviledge to feed quarters into a Ms Pacman cocktail table.

hey.. if you build that roller rink in your arcade, I can use that to convince my wife I should build a red roof pizza hut in mine :)

i have cds and tapes of 80s and early 90s music but i also have a projector and a d vd player, so usually i end up playing one of 16+ 80s music video dvds (its hooked up to my gameroom stereo)

WOuld be cooler if i had the room to multiplex 16 of the same crt tvs or monitors togther for a video wall like i remember bitd, but it works.
