Came across this while reading Make Magazine Online blog (http://blog.makezine.com/). Thought it was interesting. The guy is an artist and made this interactive sculpture homage to arcade games.

Here's a brief explanation of how he did it...

Anyone here inspired to make one of their own with spare parts they have laying around? I'm not up to it myself, but I think it would be cool to see what you guys could come up with and post it here. Thoughts?

I like it! Of course I would prefer if the buttons made the appropriate sounds for the games the graphics were lifted from. But most people wouldn't know the difference.

Whats "energize" from? I am drawing a blank on that one.

And kudos for using the shield from Major Havoc. I wouldn't be surprised if that guy is on here somewhere.

Exactly. He's done such a nice job on this thing that not having the right sounds for all the buttons really sticks out, IMHO.

Each one of those sound modules cost around $10-11 depending on how many you order.

I could see making a little box with just a few buttons and keep it on my desk at work. I could reprogram it whenever i get tired of the sounds (it plays mp3/wav files up to 50 sec.). They're individual modules that you can program and loop the sounds, use the button to start/stop or single play. So you could program one to play one of the ambient arcade mp3 sound files and keep that looping while you shoot/fire with the other buttons. Hmm, I might try this out if I get bored sometime. Could be fun!

Kinda cool! Interesting to note that he used some Major Havoc graphics.... not many people know about that game outside the collecting community.
