APB Restoration

Everything went to the powder coater today!!!

I sent all of the APB metal to the powder coater... I also decided to do everything else I had kicking around...

APB Seat Frame
APB Foot Pedal
APB Coin Door
APB Louver Vents

...these also went for the trip
Berzerk Coin Door
Berzerk Marquee Brackets
Berzerk Door Hinge

Galaga Coin Door
Galaga Marquee Brackets
Galaga Control panel and Joystick Frame

Space Invaders Coin Door
Atari Power Block Frame

All said and done it will be 150 for all of it... I am using 4 different types of finishes so I don't think thats a bum deal... once its done... this project will be done (pending artwork)

Sounds like a good deal to me. Who are you using?
I've got some parts I want powder coated, but haven't found any place yet. 1 place wanted over $100 just for a Galaga Coin Door. A few places passes and a couple won't give me a rough quote until I drop off the parts.

I'm lucky I've got a local shop...

They do great work I usually try to go with colors/finishes they have in stock if not they have to special order and that jacks up the price a bit... they have to order powder at a 2lb minimum. For all of the parts I'm getting done, I have selected 4 finishes, 2 were in stock 2 were not.

Textured Black, Textured Grey (special order)
Gloss Black, Gold (in stock)

Well, where are the pictures of the powder coated goodness?

Tonight... for sure...

It all came out great except for the foot pedal... there is quite a bit of sagging on the finish... I'm going to take that piece back for refinishing. I've got two boxes of stuff!!! The seat frame, coin door, and foot pedal were all the same "textured" finish it's real nice. All the other parts look fantastic as well.

My yearly trip to the powder-coating shop is so much fun... I try to grab all kinds of stuff around the house that I think needs treatment (helps justify the trip) ;)

Powder Coating stuff...

Here are the pics of the stuff... some APB some not...

All said and done I will probably return a couple of pieces for refinishing... they are really decent at this place and will fix them for me no problem...

Atari coin door frame (bubbling on the bottom)
Galaga coin door (bubbling around coin shute and 25c window frame)
Foot pedal (bubbling on the corner and the hole for the axle is mucked up so bushing doesn't fit well)

Very nice, Retro! I have been following resto on your A.P.B. and must say "job well done!"

I have a A.P.B. myself and love it!. I have to do resto myself on my machine, specifically the front by the coin door, damn cash bar holes, and eventually have to find another tube since mine has some terrible *high score* burn-in....

Thanks! Yeah APB certainly is infamous for it's burn!

I am so anxious to be done with this... I had to send the pedal and coin door frame back to be re-finished... and I still need to deal with the artwork.

This seat is a result of a bunch of different folks... plans were drawn up from my original seat, DPTWiz had reproduced the wooden seat pedestal as a kit for me so it came ready for assembly! Rich at ThisOldGame faithfully reproduced the seat side art in both factory white and APB flyer red!! I chose red. The pain for me was finding a suitable replacement for the seat material... I was lucky enough to find one and its pretty much dead nuts the same as the original...

Building the base of the seat first...

Then came the front and rear faces...

That's it! Nothing to it... I did sand the corners to round them off as per the original. I hit it with 80 grit on the random orbital...

Can you guess which one is new ;)

More seat stuff...

I painted the sides two colors... Black for the inside face and Red for the outside... in case there is any exposed wood when the decal is attached.

Here is the new seat rubber... whadddya think?
APB-Seat-Rubber.JPG

Cut to fit (about right)... we will trim it later...

I attached the bolts and tnuts (not shown) then sprayed the thing with contact cement...

Also coated the rubber matting..

Simply roll it on keeping constant even pressure against the material...

Continue until its wrapped tight and then staple...

Trim off excess... and we're done!!!

even more seat stuff...

Re-attach the sides... sorry folks no pics of attaching the side art... truth be told it was pretty easy... no special skills needed... if you can put on a postage stamp... you can do this one :)

Do the t-molding...

...looks so darn good when that protective layer is peeled away...

enough with the pics already!!!!

sometimes this thing says I've included 6 pics and in fact I've not.... hence why some of these threads only have 4 pics in them...

this is the last of them..

I see you went with the red, very sharp!

I actually manage to get a seat from a fella few years back... He wanted 1 bill for it, which I didn't care cause I've been looking for one for a good five years! Mine is the original white but damn, the red looks good!

What's next RA? Sideart??

Nice! It's looking great! I picked up a simliar rubber for my Vindicators restoration.

Side art should be next... I'm still waiting for a couple of re worked parts (includes coin door frame, and pedal :( ) from the powder coating shop. After that and the side art I also have a virtually new steering wheel I need to install to get rid of the lightly rusted one that's on there. Then I think I will be able to call this one done !
