APB monitor repair guy needed in the Milwakee/Chi area.

Great site, tons of info! I have been collecting pinball machines and slot machines for some time, just recently took the arcade plunge! (sorry if this is posted in the wrong spot btw).

So, I recently picked up an APB and the picture just looks like it needs help. Double red images, bland color etc.. I would just like to have this gone over completely to get it back to having vibrant color and a solid pic. (yes, I spent hours with a mirror adjusting to get the picture the best it could be.)

Are there any local repair guys near Milwaukee WI or Chicago IL that could tackle this? I live in between, in Kenosha WI.

I will pay cash or I have a mint WGE 1972 monitor fully functional that I'd give. Whatever works.

(Having issues attaching the monitor pics)

Thanks,
Matt

subscribed because mine needs some help, too.

On the bland color, have you tried to rejuvinate it? Mine doesn't have a sticker on the tube, so I'm not sure which adapter to use. Does anyone know which one it is?

Please let me know if you find someone who works on these monitors (and works on APB boards) :)

I have not tried anything but slowly adjust the colors. It seems these 19" med res monitors are like hens teeth and I wouldn't want to make the problem worse.

Mine is playable like it is, but this game deserves a monitor rehab! Loved this game when I was a kid!

Now to find the seat or have one made up.

our NARC monitor was essentially junk when I started.

it came out pretty nice when I was finished. :)

Do you repair them? I would make the trip to drop off the monitor if so!

Thanks!!

if you want to ship the monitor to me i can repair it for you no prob.

Peace
Buffett
I appreciate it, but for now I am going to just deal with the convergence issues it has.

I almost have as much money into having the monitor 'fixed' as the cost of the entire machine.

Thanks though!

chad at arcadecup.com up in wisconsin would have convergence strips and many other parts if you want to try it yourself.

I did contact Chad a while back and was going to make the drive to drop off the monitor. Seems he mainly fixes the chassis though.

If this was a standard res which seems to be much easier to find, I would tackle the repairs/adjustments myself. I don't want to ruin anything on this med res, so had a more knowledgeable person attempt the fix.

If anyone local to Milwaukee or Chicago has a fully functional med res 19" I would trade them and pay more $! Let me know!

Unfortunately I fear that the trade plus money offer simply wouldn't be enough for the person receiving your monitor. It usually costs around $200.00 just to cap/fly the chassis (outside repair), and the person receiving your monitor in exchange would then have to it, and deal with your convergence issues. No offense, but the amount of $$ you would need to give for this to happen would simply not be worth the trade. What if they needed to send it out after the exchange and it actually cost them more than you offered?? Better off attempting repairs yourself. You said you are able, and honestly that chassis is really not anymore difficult to fix than std res. What do you have to loose if you attempt yourself, if you mess up, send it to be fixed. You may need to do that anyway, so didn't really loose much other than your time. Plus you will learn from attempting to fix it.

I hear ya..

This monitor has been capped, new flyback, rejuv, and the boards/chassis has been gone over 100%. Colors are great now. The only thing that wasn't adjusted was the yolk and the rings which that needed from the start.

I had an option to buy a med res (minor burn) tested working for $500.. That's looking like a steal at this point. Hahaa

It's playable as is. I will do my homework and get to it eventually.

Ah, that would change things in swapping then. If this is the case though it may be best to keep yours since you know what all has been done. There is a video on adjusting yoke and rings floating around the forum and youtube. It's actually fairly straightforward.

Yep, watched it a couple times.

In this 'my first arcade' case, I was just hoping to have it fixed by someone rather then dive in right away myself. All good though, I will get it done.

Purity has been adjusted and looks much better, other adjustments have been made and look good. It's just the yolk that needs to be adjusted slightly (which I was told after sending a vid to a guy.).

What monitor do you have in it? a K4915?

Post some pictures of the problems you are having, we'll be able to give you better advice.

Before you go much further, you should find someone with a monitor rejuve to check out the tube. If your tube is dying, you need a tube swap. Or, you have the results of a not perfectly completed tube swap. (Post pictures of the back of the tube and the tube numbers.)

Also, if you have another med res monitor (or tri-sync), wire it over to that monitor and see how the game looks to make sure the monitor is your problem. (Don't swap the monitor in/out, but wire it to an extra, even a 25in monitor.)

As mentioned above. It has had a rejuv, new flyback and gone over. Colors are bright etc, it's just to the point that when in test/grid screen, it is clear/sharp in the center but fuzzy on the upper left and right corners. Blue and red also show on the bottom, bending off grid, one on the left, one on the right. And lastly, while in test/grid screen, the top of the grid is bending down and not a straight line.

Sorry for the noob translation.

* will post pics later

Is it a K4915?

Is the current tube from a TV/Tube swap or is it from the factory?

What are the tube numbers and what is the chassis?

I was told it is a K7000

I will have to look at the tube when home. I think its a Rauland?

Here are a few pics. They show the bending downward of the image. Also, the image doesn't really fit top to bottom, no matter the adjustment.

I tried to take pics of the test pattern screen but it didn't show as well as this. - Monitor was just turned ON and takes a few for the colors to pop.

Again, it is playable, just would like it how it is supposed to be.

Yeah, that convergence looks off everywhere. When it is just off on the sides and overall pretty good, I would say it isn't worth the risk of making it worse to fix it. But, with where you are at, you have a lot of run for improvement.

Was this a tube swap?

Also, the colors "popping" after warming up is a chassis issue, not a tube issue.
