eBay - 3rd Party APB complete seat

so they are supposed to have a flat edge (to match the art) in the front and back? Instead of a round cut .
From all the photos I've been able to find, along with the measurements I've taken, it seems to be two 1-1/2" radius corners, rather than a single radiused end that is a continuous curve. The art definitely exhibits that as well.

Here are a couple reference pics I found on Google:

Also, here was my semi-surviving ear from when I got the seat:

I'm pretty confident that what I made is correct.

I cut the rubber mat to fit the seat and did a dry test fit. It looks great! Have to decide how much I want to glue it down. I also tried a few finishes on the set of test ears including a textured spray paint, satin paint, and just black vinyl. I didn't love any of them and was further annoyed that the T-molding was actually wider than the plywood (and I tried trimming the t-molding, but that didn't work since the chrome is just the surface coating and trimming it exposed white plastic).

Then it hit me. I broke out my black laminate to check and realized the 23/64" thickness of the plywood is to allow for lamination. A sheet of laminate on each side and it will line up spot on with the T-molding. So that's my plan. I need to get a flush trim router bit with the bearing on the other end to work with the router table for trimming but then I will be in business.

I finished the seat restore! After laminating, trimming and applying t-molding to the ears, and using Hi Strength 90 to glue down the rubber mat I attached everything.

The only real issue I hit was that I had painted the internal mounting bracket in the cab with the same textured paint I used on the frame and then bolted it down tight before trying to insert the seat frame. Bad move, too much friction and it scraped up the end of the seat frame. I eventually had to loosen everything up, position the seat frame under the bracket and re-tighten. Oh well.

Nice you lucky cocksucker!! Make no mistake, I will find my own APB with a seat before I'm done with this journey.
Now I just need a medium res monitor. I'm doing the double-signal converter dance to get it to display on a standard res K7000. It looks better than the LCD it had when I got it, but it definitely would be better with the right monitor. For now I will play it and beat confessions out of those perps though!

I have tears in my eyes.

I shouldn't probably say this, but I have 2 19" medium res monitors for mine. Haven't decided on which one I'll use quite yet though. Other one will be sold at some point. One came with the game obviously and then I picked up another APB missing parts but had the monitor.

I'm probably not going to want ship it though either.

Yeah, shipping tubes is a pain. But if you ever consider letting one go, I would still try to find a way. I've been trying to badger a guy out this way into selling me one too, but so far no joy.

Man, so super flipping cool. Thank you for sharing your APB restore project. APB seems to definitely have a cult following. I have heard other games adapt the Mafia title. I think we need a Media title. The APB Mafia.

I have 19" med res chassis if you need one. No tubes or yokes.

Almost done! Holes on the bottom piece aren't drilled yet because I had to rush everything out to the welder.
Now, do I paint, or powder coat? 🤔

If you paint, definitely avoid the texture coating that I did. It caused way too much friction which scraped up the shaft on insertion (yes, yes, I know….). If I was re-doing it I'd just use a semi-gloss hard finish like the Rustoleum professional. Powdercoat is probably ideal.

Everyone knows powder coat is best, but pricey. The texture paint also comes out a little brown. And you have to re spray with black.
Also the welder guy supposedly created a jig. So there is a potential to make more of the metal part based on interest and price vs shipping.

On my seat restore I am doing, I priced out a powder coater to do a satin black on the framing and was quoted $100. I am just going to go that route since its the best finish and that is not too bad for price considering they will sandblast and powdercoat it.
