Anything you can do to restore metal trim/legs?

I'm now in the process of cleaning up one of my machines as well as possible, and I have a question about the metal trim, legs, etc. The metal on the machine is in good condition (no rust or dents), but it's gotten pretty dull. I tried metal polish, and a buffing wheel, but not much difference.

Am I pretty much stuck buying new legs and trim down the road, or can it be painted (say with Krylon metal sprays) or something like that?

I've had good results with Brasso, fine steel wool and lots of elbow grease. All is not lost. You should be able to polish them to a shine one way or another. You might just need some harsher methods.

Sorry, I dont have much to add to this. But I had to open this thread just by the title of it alone. LOL

Didn't think it sounded suggestive or odd, but I changed the post title anyway. Don't see anywhere that I can change the thread title.

I've not seen legs that got dull and did not have rust or corrosion on them...but I haven't seen that many. Are you sure they were shiny to begin with? I've used Brasso and it worked well. Later went back over them with some Turtle Wax Chrome Polish and that shined them up more. For light rust the Never Dull worked well. I haven't tried to remove some heavier rust yet on the insides of the legs but did buy some Must for Rust to try.

Legs I think is fairly obvious, trim would be the naughty bits of the fairer sex...

In this hobby (and the geeks involved), I've come to accept that if something sounds naughty, it isn't. Although some threads with seemingly mild names can end up NSFW... go figure... might be because I'm probably one of the younger guys in the crowd...

I don't know for sure if they were shiny, but the lockdown bar, trim, and legs are all the same "dullness," and if you look at this picture, they didn't used to be:

So, the trim and the lockdown bar must be able to shine up some. The legs don't really have any rust on them, maybe a little gunk and corrosion, but not too bad.

My Black Knight has a chrome shiny trim and lockdown bar but the legs are a dull grey type color. I haven't cleaned them up yet. They should shine up with polish but will never be a chrome shiny.
