Anyone who has replace the vinyl on your 720

Always glad to hear about another 720 being resurrected.

I haven't yet done it myself, but am fairly certain you want to remove the old vinyl, then prep the wood by sanding and making it as perfectly smooth as possible. As I understand it, any small imperfection in the surface is magnified a by the thin vinyl. I believe some may prep the surface with some sort of sealer...polyurethane or something similar.

Yes, the quickest way that has had the best results:

1) remove old vinyl (with heat gun)\
2) sand sides
3) remove dust
4) cover sides in joint compound to fill in little voids in wood that will be created when you remove old vinyl
5) sand joint compound smooth
6) remove dust
7) cover in several light coats of polyurethane, sanding in between.

Search for threads by nash, Jedidentist, and Wade for 720 restorations. The above approach is what I used for my 720 cabinet restoration, too, and it seemed to work the best.

Keep in mind that with the particle board panels, there's usually at least a tiny bit of swelling around the edges. I'd think you'd want to sand the panel really well, taking care of that.

Cool. Thanks. Has anyone sourced the material or has everyone just bought the precut pieces when they have been available? I know someone is working on another run of them but I'd like to get the game done soon so I can bring it in the house from the shed.
