Anyone who has played both the UR and cabaret versions of Asteroids...

...did the smaller version make a big difference re: game play?

(I know this is subjective, but opinions would be appreciated.)

I played the cabaret version of AD and have the full version at home...you lose the awesome backdrop...but honestly I thought the cabaret was just as cool

AD

The cabaret is cool for the cab and the novelty of it but I think the game play suffers. If you have not played much on the full size. You might be happy with the mini. It is hard to step down to me.

Great input, people. I'm wanting to find an Asteroids cabaret someday...

I seem to see more of the AD's pop up than Asteroids in the cabaret.

Me too, though I know Asteroids cabarets are out there. Interestingly enough, it's excluded from the Atari production numbers list.

I own an AD cabaret, really enjoy it, but will also admit it does lose something not having the backdrop. However, the game is still great, so it works for me! :) I would also say the same thing about my TRON mini, but I am working to resolve some of the disparity between the two cabinets...

i had an Asteroids cabaret and, while the gameplay doesn't seem much different, i decided that if i was going to have an Asteroids it'd be an upright. i was missing the great artwork and i much prefer the larger CP and more upright monitor. so i sold the cabaret to a local friend who was looking for one and went Asteroids-less for quite some time.

then recently a very nice upright fell into my hands for relatively little money. i suppose it's karma for me passing on the cabaret to someone who really wanted it.

but i think eventually i'll pass this upright on as well in favor of an AD which i prefer gameplay-wise and i really like the blacklight background.

Cool. Let us know what you come up with; I've got a TRON mini, too.
