Anyone up for some online arcade gaming? (SF Rush the Rock, Hydro Thunder)

.. Sounds like the WaveNet would be a bigger issue than simply setting up a VPN - if nothing else, we have none of their server software, so we don't know what the games are sending nor expecting in return. :(

Plus it would segregate the already small amount of people that want to do this multiplayer. Cool to examine, but unless it adds functionality.

In *theory* the WaveNet server shouldn't be too hard to reverse engineer, as it is highly unlikely that in the 90s any of this was encrypted traffic. It becomes a matter of a lot of guess and test for what the game expects back as an answer for its various "questions". The question comes to mind if there were any hardware differences for WaveNet.

In theory it could be only if the pcb will run the game without the server like rush 2049 te. So maybe who ever has this could answer if the pcbs boots and runs without the midway server.

Standard image for the Pi with openVPN, passes all network traffic from the Rush to everyone elses Pi's/Rushes on the VPN (up to 8 per VPN segment).

So, buy a Pi per Rush machine (or if you want to put your multiple Rush's to a hub, then that to 1 Pi).

So does it matter what version of Raspberry Pi? I was going to pick up one of these and give this a try.

I am in Kansas, so not to far away from ArcadeImpossible, geographically.

I assume we are loading a OpenVPN image into the Raspberry Pi and then set it up to connect to your VPN?

I know VPNs relatively well, but I dunno a *thing* about Pi's though.

I sent ArcadeImpossible a PM a while back, hadn't heard anything - afraid he got pulled away because of RL stuffs. :(

Haven't read this whole thread, but I'll be installing a pretty beefy internet setup in my house soon enough, could probably have a good VPN going for people to connect to. Different user names and passwords, etc. Or at least for testing

But ya, the problem comes down to people wanting to connect to the VPN. Many ways you can do it. Some easier, most not as straight forward, and some not as secure.

I'm going to be attempting this in the future. I have one Rush 2049 SE, and a friend has two of them. We live 25 miles apart, but it would be fun to be able to link our machines and race.

I'll either use Raspberry Pi's or old Windows laptops.

Bumping again -
Wondering if anyone has their games ready to go.

I finally got my two games up and operational and linked together, and am starting to look into getting a Pi to get them connected up to a VPN.

I can start a VPN if needed, but thought I'd check to see if anyone else has been working on it..

@DogP and @linkinpark9812 Are y'all still interested in getting this up and running? There's been chatter in the Hydro Thunder Discord about interest in getting online games setup. If a VPN is already up and running, I think folks could easily pick up something like a gl-inet Mango to connect their cabs to an openvpn or wireguard VPN.

Thanks!

Possibly, but much more limited time I have free now compared to when I first stated that 7 years ago lol. It would probably be best to host your own VPN on a cloud service with a domain name, and have users connect to that. I think this actually requires more work on the end-user, since they need to connect to the vpn properly and forward all traffic from their machine to the VPN. It would require coordination as only 4 machines could connect to a VPN at a time, and coordinating the #1-#4 settings.

OK... I would do this for sure. Anyway to set up a website that shows who is available etc. So you can jump into some linked games! I have one RUSH THE ROCK would love to race other people...
