a few months ago I bought a NAOMI kit from another user (sorry, forgot their name) just to have some spare parts until I saw another seller selling Zombie Revenge and I figured I'd go ahead and drop this in my hodge podge fighting game cab.

everything's getting AC because the sound amp lit up like a christmas tree (ok one green light, but I like using that description anyway) but I'm only getting a black screen on the monitor. monitor is a WG U5000 running in standard res, and the dipswitch for standard res is set on the NAOMI mainboard (#1 set to On, I think). I threw this together at the end of the night and didn't get around to re-wiring the speakers yet, so I'm not sure if it's a board issue or a monitor signal issue.

but from what I gather, the AC goes to the power supply and a splitter from that goes to the sound amp transformer, the power supply has some +5/+12 volt harnesses that plug into the NAOMI mainboard and then there's another connector that goes to the JAMMA adapter. the RCA outs on the NAOMI mainboard then go to the sound amp. the USB and VGA cables plug into the JAMMA adapter. and then the cab's JAMMA harness plugs into the JAMMA adapter.

there's some other empty plugs on the JAMMA adapter though, and I'm not entirely sure what else I would need. I'm assuming I hooked everything up right because I have AC to the power supply, the power supply's giving all the power feeds to the mainboard and the JAMMA adapter, video, input and audio signals are going where they need to go.

this is the standard JAMMA adapter, not the Capcom one, and it's a Rev. B as per what the sticker on it says. (that makes a difference I think)

Well, you can confirm if there is a video signal coming out of the NAOMI by switching DIP #1 to OFF and plugging a VGA monitor directly to it.

If you are getting a video signal but it's just a black screen try unplugging the cart and boot the NAOMI without it - this should at least get you the NAOMI title screen and an error message.

Once you confirm there is a signal try your JAMMA I/O again.

The Naomi requires +5, +12 AND +3.3v from the power supply.

make sure no voltages coming into the jamma harness, just the naomi powersupply
if your jamma harness is hooked up to a ps you will not get anything on screen,i know because i just hooked one up,nothing on screen but lights were on,unplugged the cabinet ps going to the jamma harness and works like a champ

also make sure your jamma i/o board has the little plug for power coming off the naomi ps

yeah, I'm using the unit that came with it, has all the same connectors with the silly Sega Japanese ends, so I'm assuming that's all proper.

I unplugged the other PSU entirely (both the molex going to the JAMMA edge and the AC) ... and yes, just have the little plug running off the PSU into the JAMMA adapter.

I'm fairly certain everything's hooked up right. the USB plug is kind of fucked up, doesn't have the plastic spacer in it, but that wouldn't cause my problems I'm having now.

I'll probably have to meter the JAMMA adapter and all the plugs on the back of the NAOMI board... the PSU might be garbage too. all the parts in the box came out of a Midway cab (ironically) just like the one I'm dropping all this stuff in, there were some other funny connectors too. what does the big black one on the JAMMA adapter do? I have that harness, but the other ends on it look like they'd go into an actual NAOMI cab (some yellow 4 pin plugs?)

UPDATE: I actually had the JAMMA adapter power connector not plugged into the PSU. I metered the 3.3V, it's at 3.5 and the +5V is up at 5.77V. I can't find any adjustment pots on this power supply, so... what did I fry? :)

problem solved. would having the CPU fan accidentally unplugged make a difference? :)

Yes.

3 pin fans have a wire that lets the board monitor whether or not the fan is turning properly. No fan, no run. If I recall properly, that fan is a 3 wire one.

yeah, I did it at the end of the night last friday or so, I opened the case to clean the fans out on it. after unscrewing the CPU fan to clean the blades on both sides I kept telling myself "don't forget to plug it back in" and well... :)

I was afraid I would've fried it, but I also figured it would have a shutdown feature like that (the yellow wire is typically the monitor one in PC applications)

I bought it in kind of an unknown condition (I only really wanted all the other parts) so after plugging the fan back in I dropped it in our Virtua Tennis cab and it worked like a charm. hooked it back up to the JAMMA cab and it worked fine then too. so despite having a power harness unplugged, voltages all whacky on the PSU (I found the adjustments btw, way I mounted it on the wood board they were on the bottom!), and a CPU fan unplugged... I think the operation was a success.

thanks guys for getting the creative juices flowing in my head to get through this. lol
