Anyone replace a working Q*Bert power supply with a new ArcadeShop one?

wow, i must have missed it. i'll look again. my battery has been updated but doesn't save high scores after shut down of course.

it's called "Q*bert Battery Conversion Kit". it's 2 STMicro M48Z02 16 kb SRAM (http://www.mouser.com/ProductDetail...=sGAEpiMZZMvaNBfR/smQG3q6CQ8OY03ucOkqmh/jIa4=), which you put in place of the two RAMs on the right on the board. and a jumper which you replace diode D2 with. the 470 uf cap comes in the "Q*bert CPU & Sound Board Cap Kit", separate from the SRAM. or at least this was all true as of about 6 weeks ago when i ordered them.

you can also use simtek STK25C48 NVRAM instead of the STM SRAM, but those chips are more rare i think (though i think i recall coming across some thread in these forums where someone said they had a bunch of them).

EDIT: you can also use the Dallas DS1220AD or similar - see http://www.jrok.com/sohs/qb-upg.html for instance. they're more expensive, but at least you can buy them (http://www.mouser.com/ProductDetail...GAEpiMZZMutXGli8Ay4kC27Vf1CC6Grh%2bEB6a1P2tk=).

I have 4 spare Dallas 1220 AD chips from my Pole Position project. Looks like I know what I'll be doing for my Q*Bert as it's put back together. :)

He already has the switchers for sale. What he does not have is the plug and play wiring harness to go with it. You would have to build that yourself. Or someone would have to build it for you.

Cool. I guess I would have someone build it for me since I dont have the technical know-how. Since people seem to have issues with the AS PS switcher conversion, it seems there is a little bit demand for these.

As mentioned earlier in this thread I ordered the AS PS. I installed it tonight and also added in a sound board (mine was missing from the game when I bought it). I hooked it all up with very little trouble, but when I powered it up, I got no video or sound. I did get neck glow, but no video nor LED illumination on the AS PS. I checked the AC and it said I was getting like 175, which seemed odd. I got no reading at all on the 5 and 12. Not sure what is up. I tripled checked everything.

I am doing this on a cocktail, so the boards/harness were a bit tough to work with, but I am certain I plugged them into the AS PS board properly. I checked both the "1" pin location and also based on the gap in the pins/connectors.

My game was working previously, minus sound, so I will likely put the original back in to verify everything is cool, but does anyone have any idea what I may have done wrong or what is up?

Thanks a lot!

I got my stuff from AS tonight. I think I am only going to install only the battery mod for now. I am gonna roll with the original PS for now since it is all working. Crazy?

I don't think so. I mean I plan to run the original stuff, but to be fair, I can't ever see my Q*Bert being on for hours at a time. Even in a party type situation the game would probably get turned off if nobody is playing it. I don't have power easily located at each game anyway so it's not practical to have all of them on at once.

This thread makes me want a Q*Bert :(

Jow, I gotta say, I have been thinking this is the best video game I have gotten this year. I frickin' LOVE the game play. I am hooked on it. The graphics, sounds, speech, knocker, etc. It's a total package. I really am in love with it. GOOD STUFF.

Check the fuses on the power supply transformer brick inside your machine.

Yeah, Q*bert is a fun game for sure. The big seller is that I think my wife would love it. Everything in CA is too expensive though, and shipping blows too. Unless someone had a working project (cosmetics, etc) in the $400 range I wont ever get one.

I played My Q*Bert this morning for about 15 minutes. Great games on the multi. I am actually hooked on FHMC Q*Bert right now. I also really enjoy Cubes. My sound seems to be working again, but I think I am gonna replace the chip at U17 on my soundboard. I replaced U16, might as well do the other one. It's been a while, anyone know what chip to order? (I'm not at home to check) Also, any TLYZ fans out there? That game rocks too. Love it.

Hehe I've been on the 6 year plan with my Q*Bert. I bought it at a Super Auctions (converted to Dragons Breed) and have been piecing it together since then. Here's where I'm at with it. Still need to get the back door mounted, but a lot has been done. I even got the new cpo and lower overlay put on last night. Since I hate sanding and painting, getting that part done the last few months has made a huge difference. Now I feel confident in making that final push to get it done.

I need that multi-kit. Who sells these?

The fuses seem fine on the brick. I put the original PS back in there last night and the game worked (although the graphics were a little tweaked and I had no sound- but that was going on before as well). So it seems like either the AS PS is bad or I did something wrong. I triple checked everything I did, so not sure what is up.
