The sound stopped working in the game. Self test shows no errors (so Im assuming the main PCB is fine). I can wiggle the wires on this particular sound board and get speaker crackle, but no sound.

I have a similar issue with my Atari Audio II's. My Super Sprint looses sound on one side. Like you, the self test checks out.

I can't see the photo that great, but it like a I see a burnt diode. In the photo you see four large diodes, and then one small diode. I think I see black around the small one. Check all your diodes for shorts.

That pic isn't mine. I just found one online as a reference.

Swap the one from your 720 to make sure that is the problem first.
If the 720 one doesn't work in your CS, see if the CS one works in your 720.

Yeah, I thought about that this AM. I will do some testing out, to see if we can figure out what the deal is.

When you say that self-test shows no errors, does that mean the sound works in self-test?
Do you hear the little notes coming from the speakers when the Pokey test is being done?

Look up 720schem.pdf on the web for the schematics for 720. It has a page for the Audio II board.

Parts of the circuit are pretty simple. There is a pair of audio amps that depend on +14VDC and -14VDC. If you've got those voltages, maybe you can replace the amps on the board.

Good luck-

UPDATE:

The Audio II PCB is fine, as it works perfect in my 720. I'm glad that's the case. I'm thinking this is like my Paperboy sound issue I had (where I just replaced the L and R pokey's on the PCB and the sound effects came back.)

In test mode for Championship Sprint, the Yamaha test nets nothing, but the pokeys (both L and R) make noises fine. Im feeling good that this is a PCB issue (with the chips). Anyone know which chips on the PCBs are responsible for sound? I figure I replace those, and I should be good to go.

Thanks!

Anyone know? I tried reading the manual, but I couldnt figure out which PCB chips are responsible for sound...
