In about 1982-1984 I played a VERY unique and rare arcade videogame on campus at the University of Oregon.

The game was flat, like the "cocktail table" games, but it was tall and you had to stand up to play it. The unique thing was that it was semi-holographic. Looking straight down from above there were two levels. The upper level was the "sky." You were piloting an airplane that you could see on this upper level, but you could also see through the level to a lower level. The enemy was on the ground shooting up at you, and you flew around dropping bombs. There was a "down ramp" that you could fly down and you would convert to a tank so you could shoot at the enemy from their level and do much more damage but at greater risk of being hit yourself. To get down the ramp you first had to successfully bomb the enemy to clear the area. The game was essentially two-tone; if I remember correctly it was green objects on the grey display on the ground. (Like old CRTs). The second level was essentially a clear piece of glass, so the airplane was projected onto it from somewhere. So the 2nd level was not a display.

Sorry for the ragged description. The game was SO different from anything else that it is really hard to give you the idea. NOTHING like Defender (for example) where you fly up and down above the ground, but all on a single display.

Funny I saw that game yesterday from a distance. I could really only see the marquee and although I could make out the word Dark, it was kind of hard to read the other word due to the lighting. Seeing the pic though I know that was it. Just funny it got mentioned.
