I am very curious about what the video looks like on the monitor before it is reflected by the parabolic mirror.

This game came out before 3d graphics cards, and I wonder how hard it would be to build a pc that could render graphics in this method, but using a high resolution monitor.

I was so impressed by the quality time traveler, it was like the 3d chess in the 1st star wars movie.

I have never seen Coliseum, was it like a 3d mortal kombat?

It's not as high tech as you think. If you open one up, it's just a small sony trinitron TV angled upwards and reflected with some glass or mirrors. It's a laserdisc game.

Yes I know, it is like that mirrored ball you can put a coin in that makes a hologram.

But I want to see what the video looks like before the parabolic mirror.

The video is recorded with a camera with a mirror too.

The thought is making a a game for the PC that allows games to display floating holograms. Using directx with a virtual camera and mirror. Do I make sense?

I have a Holosseum (Not coliseum). It the worst game I've ever played. Here's the game play....It's like 2 guys in a box that can take 2 steps forward and backward. The commentary is ridiculously irritating.

They day I rid myself of this pile of shit the better. The only thing it's good for is when people first see it "WOW, thats looks neato!!". Then they play it for about 30 seconds and move on with a disappointed look on their face.

and yeah, it's a sony 20" tv in there. Nothing special.

FYI- Holosseum uses a system 32 board, no LD.

If you really want pics, I can take some later.

lol I know exactly what you mean. I remember when they unveiled it at my local 'cade. Lots of oooh's and aaah's for about 15 minutes. No one ever touched it after that.

AH,CRAP!!! Sorry man, I spoke too soon.

I just realized I pulled the PS out of it and put it in my Hard Drivin. If I drink enough tonight, I might put it back in.

I would really be interested to see what the video looks like before it is reflected off the mirror! I can wait until you get a chance.

Thanks!!

How did you end up with this game jaymax? Was it given to you as a dying last wish from a fellow klover? Surely if you hate it that bad,you must have gotten it for next to nothing and/or wasn't able to play it before you got it.Or was forced to buy it at gunpoint.:p

He probably has/had plans to convert it back to a Time Traveler-No one in their right mind would want a Hollesium in their collection...That game is TERRIBLE!

Damn it

Yes, I wanted to convert back to TT. But, I've had this thing for 3 months and haven't seen shit for TT come up.

As far as pics tonight go... ain't gonna happen. I put the PS back in, fired it up, the light on the PS came on, then went off. Try again, no light. Pulled the PS, checked connections, reseated, nope. +5 is 1.5 and won't change. -5 is -6.5. AC is good (fans, TV come on) and measures good.

So either the PS decided to take a dump JUST now, or something else is poopy. I'm not in the mood to pull another PS and find out tonight.

Whats worse than owning a Holosseum? Answer: Owning a non-working Holosseum.

I'm in the middle of some bad luck, after last nights incident with a neckboard, I'm down to one working game. All of this has happened in a 2 week period.

I love this hobby.

Man I am so sorry I contributed to another broken machine! I hope things get better for you!

The video without the mirror looks squished, that way with the mirror it looks straight. Load it up in MAME if you want to check it out. It's f'ing terrible though...

Don't be sorry for something I f-d up. I'm sure it's just the PS taking a dump. Hell, I felt like I had a purpose tonight and I could finally help someone out after all the help I've been given.

I'll play with it tomorrow after work and give it another go.

Wow!

Is that what it looks like in Time Traveler too? If that is the case I could imagine running MAME in a Time Traveler cab and stretch the video and turn off all the layers but the characters in games like Street Fighter 2 or Mortal Kombat!!!

The video doesn't look distorted at all, that was not what I expected! Now I really want to put a good fighting game in one of those cabinets, and just turn off all the layers but the characters and lifebar!

Yeah.. it wasn't distorted or anything like that. I think it was a little blurry or something? I can't remember its been so long since I captured that footage. Most of that pixilation you see on those video files are because we compressed them way down for slow internet connections back in the day.

The actual footage, however, is displayed backwards and the mirror in the cabinet would make it forward again. I'm not sure what would happen if something other than TT footage or Holo-suck-um was displayed in the cabinet. I don't think it would work, but if you do try it, let me know what happens.

If I were to try a fighter like Street Fighter or Mortal Kombat, I would have to use MAME to mirror the game image, and to diable all layers but the characters.

I SO want to try it out, but I don't have a cabinet to try it out with!
