Aren't those joysticks generic Chinese deals?

You should look for some NOS Wicos or something. Or, you could get a Happ Super or Competion. If you like the traditional balltop style, get them from Tornado Terry's. For example, you can get:

COMPETITION BASE WITH BALL TOP SHAFTS, 8 way ONLY!

CHOOSE WOOD OR METAL $18.95 EA

attachment.php

And there are various other options there for combining a balltop shaft with a Happ base; which is probably a higher quality option than the JammaBoards.com sticks. It is also almost certainly cheaper than getting something made.

First, there are no other joystick assemblies with a small enough profile under the control panel for the cabinet I need to use these in. (None of the several HAPP bases I tried worked, because they were too big).

Secondly, the JAMMABoard joysticks use a nut on the bottom of the shaft, which means I'll need a threaded joystick shaft that is about 5/8" longer than the ones that come with the assembly.

Thanks.

What cabinet is it? And what was the problem with the Happ bases exactly? Was it that the holes didn't line up? I can't imagine a control panel and mounting area being so small that a Happ stick physically won't fit. I've seen Happ sticks mounted in bar top machines.

This is an earlier thread on the problem with using standard sized joysticks in this cabinet.

Ah, so you have an extremely oddball cabinet. If it were me, I would modify the cabinet (considering it is not a classic by any stretch of the imagination) to make a standard joystick fit, rather than compromise on the joystick itself (which is one of the most important components of the gameplaying experience).
