Anyone Love Scramble????

I think I have the konami version. It doesnt list any manufacturer at all on the attract screen, but the boardset says konami, lol. Which would be the preferred version? Konami or Stern? Do both boards use the same pinout? Will the stern board work with the konami jamma adapter?

Bumpity bump bump! I have a konami jamma adapter and want a Scramble. . . if both work, then I'll pick the easier one (or likely the first one I find. )

Last time I searched around for one, the easiest to get was a bootleg unfortunately. I don't remember which version it was a bootleg of though.

Picked up a great Scramble today! I haven't installed the HS kit yet. That brings me up to scoring.....

Does the game ever get to the point where you can't reach the next fuel "pod" before crashing? I can't remember how far I got BITD, I want to say the 7th level, but maybe it was 14th (I know thats a wide variation).

I just looked at the TG highscore of 1.1M.

Whats everyone's personal best here?

I got 79k on my 3rd game (only 4 rockets, going to change that now).

This is basically my exact sentiments.

Came close to picking up a cabinet but it was the same old "not close enough, sold out from under me off craigslist before I could pick it up".

I have a number of PCBs, and a jamma converter. Just need to pick up a vertical jamma cabinet to hold me over until I can find a cabinet.

I love Scramble.

Just got one down to my arcade last week and have scored around 50k. I make terrible mistakes in the end gauntlet when maneuvering. It's getting better though.

It depends... What version boardset do you have? Stern (fast fuel consumption), or Konami (slow fuel, much easier)? It will say in attract mode at the bottom of the screen. (pic please) On the stern version, you pretty much have to hit all fuel tanks after the 2nd time through to the base. Konami is way, way easier than stern, as far as fuel consumption

Great HS/FP kit, I highly recommend it! Glad my Z80 was socketed though! Anyone found longer standoffs/screws on the cheap?

Yep, you got pretty good scores for the Stern version...

Yep, the stern fuel rate is about the same after 3 times through. But you really have to hurry... Also the enemy missile launch patterns are a little different than Konami.

Yea, missle launch patterns on the 4th screen (buildings) is rough.

I vaguely remember betting someone (BITD) that I could shoot/bomb every missle/fuel/mystery on the first 3 screens. That was fun!

I've got a number of scramble boards. It was the first game PCB I collected. I'd go a couple of years and forget I had it and pick up another. Now that I have my cabinet, I'm going to test them all and sell them off!

I like your confidence especially on the stern. It sounds like you got way crazier skills than I ever did on the title.

Yes, I was looking for a konami years ago so I could go for the WR... could never find one. So I've given up on that quest.

Yea, I was petty excited when I saw the game as clean as it was. Owner said his friend acquired it. It was left in the house they bought.

Just a hint of screen burn in - I've seen a lot worse scramble monitors!

John did beat it at Richie Knucklez arcade awhile back. On arcade machine, Konami boardset, IIRC. I don't believe it was ever submitted to TG though.

Got my best score thus far, around 65k. If you miss any fuel on the thirds stage, you're screwed. This was also my first time making it to the third stage.

There are one or two in the 4th screen (building?) that you can miss, but its darn close to to get the next one without crashing.

I'm at 75,500 and haven't beat it in the past few games. Is the third stage when the difficulty maxes? I can't imagine it getting harder than basically getting every single fuel container. I have yet to beat the third stage, it's crazy trying to not miss any fuel whatsoever.

As far as the TG record is concerned, no way at all are you tackling this on a Stern board. Konami is the way to go apparently.

Fuel use maxes at 3rd stage. There are a few fuel depots you can miss on the 4th screen (building), but thats about it.

Since it does max out at 3rd stage, I don't think the WR is unattainable, even on the Stern board. Besides, you can't do it on a Konami, since you'd have to burn your own ROMs and TG would scoff at that.

Its like other games, once you eliminate mental mistakes and know the traps, it should be doable.

I get sloppy on the 5th screen (tunnels?) where you're going from the bottom all the way to the top and then accelerate. I inadvertently will hit right AND up and crash into the top.

Scramble was one of my favorites from BITD. I only have a boardset and adaptor for my vertical jamma, though. No dedicated upright. I love the sounds the best....
