Anyone know Williamson's Sugar Loaf Amusements out of Winona, MN?

Anyone know anything about them?

They have auctions once a year but that's about all I can tell you Ben..

Let me tell you something about these people. If you're thinking about buying a game from them, don't! Well, first of all, they never want to sell anything at all, and even if they do I would just simply not do it. I've had multiple bad experiences with these guys before I finally wised up and walked away for good (about 10 years ago,and yes, the same people run it now).

I'm not the only one in the Winona area who thinks these guys suck. They have a bad rep, do NOT waste your time!

If you decide to deal with them anyway, I wish you luck. If they fuck you over, I'm telling you in advance "I told you so".

Right on. I suppose I'll forgive you for your lack of info. :) They have a few games routed locally and I want to buy one from them. The woman who answered their phones said they will definitely sell me this game as they like to get rid of the older ones. I just have to call back tomorrow to sweet talk the owner to give me a good price (yeah, good luck on that). Hopefully I'll have a nice little $100 score to report here very soon. Just needs a monitor recap and a new overlay and it should be a nice looking game.

Yikes... seriously thanks for the heads up. I'll call the guy tomorrow to see what he says but I'm definitely keeping up my guard. Not worth any headaches. Thanks!

Things may have changed with them but I just don't want to see anyone get screwed. Back when I dealt with them (quite a bit unfortunately) they had a TON of classics in the back of their shop that had been collecting dust for 10-15 years that they just would NOT sell, even though I had made very reasonable offers. They also promised me a game and when I showed up to pick it up the boss lied and said that he never promised anything and then wouldn't talk to me after that. He knew he was an effin lier and didn't have the balls to face me.

They also said they'd fix my Robotron board, I sweated that out for 3 months going back and forth with the very incompetent head electronics repair guy. I finally stormed out of there after grabbing my board (which had sat in the same spot for 3 months) and told them all to fuck off.

I would just add to what gorfchampion said and use caution. I went there once looking for some repair work on a pin. I just did not get a good feeling from them and did not have them do the work.

Sugarloaf was bought out by Coinstar several years ago. Then about a year ago Coinstar sold off the Sugarloaf division to a bunch of employees. I think the company name got changed, but I believe this info is still valid:

When I lived in Winona in the mid-late 1980s I don't think I saw a single arcade game anywhere.

A lot of games were probably pulled by the late 80s for sure. Pre-1984 there were games everywhere in Winona. The roller rink, half of the gas stations, all of the pizza places - Godfathers, Shakeys, Rocky Rococco's, Pizza Hut, even Happy Chef had a Space Fury in the lobby. The movie theater always had a least 4 games in the lobby.

Did Winona ever have a dedicated arcade?

They did, but it was in the early 90's, in the Winona Mall. It wasn't too bad, they actually had a Ms. Pac and a Gorf cabaret that I remember. Closed up around 95 I believe. Other than that, the biggest number of games in one spot was the roller rink, which had about a dozen games lined up on a back wall.

I don't think I even knew there was a roller rink in Winona. I remember the mall, it was pretty small.

Pizza at Roccos was pretty decent. I bet that's still there. And Sammys with the all you can eat pizza buffet.
