Atari is now a patent troll, law firm or group of investors that have zero intent to relive the glory, just make garbage and allow shit products to questionable licensees. They have washed their hands of the true physical arcade IP, except when it is copied and released for sale as a game or by name or software(then they would crack down). They sold their shit (arcade gold) in an auction BITD when it was worthless, it is now "guarded" and released to TOG or PA under conditions or whoever strokes them or other tangible details. The Pantone codes for those films are on each sheet. It should be public, but we all know how that goes with Proto games and roms. People hold them and circle jerk to them and then whip it in your face to get a taste never to share the real prize. those people don't own the art, they own the films, copyright law for art when not kept in check like Williams did (see below) is a gray area.I think this is doable. At least a start. These companies have to have records of such. Has anyone bothered trying to track down someone that would still have access to any of the files at "said" company ? Nintendo is still around. Should be easy. Atari is a big one, has soooooo many games I like and need. lol Williams too. Also remember, might be easier as most these companies were umbrellaed under a common one.. Bally, Midway, Williams, etc.. And IMO they all were using the same black.
Oil base I am sure. This is a must. (or maybe acrylic). But water base paints are for sissyboys either way.
I am about to repaint my StarWars steering case thing and handles, and do want to use the same Atari black. (personally). Looking at it, I am wondering if its powder coated ? How long has powder coating been around ? Anyone know ? Thing is, is I also see factory flaws in it too. That wouldn't happen with power coating
Nintendo is one where if you poked the bear they would come down hard (think like disney), same with Sega (ask me how i know). They actively enforce their IP and they also actively use the IP in games still, but arcade stuff is so low on the totem that they probably leave the repro guys alone.
Williams, WMS (now scientific games who now focuses on slot machines) heavily enforcers all of their original pinball IP and still owns all of it down to the last artwork piece and pcb films. current owner and main licensee for them is planetary pinball. however it is only pinball. Their video shit is a lot like Atari above, but not guarded, just not as organized. I'm guessing there is stuff floating around but i've never really seen an WMS film for a vid. just drawings.
I think Bally/Midway/Williams (some) VIDEO shit is owned by time warner interactive and some movie studios. it was gobbled up mainly for film and other usage. a lot of it was auctioned off pretty recent, this you can apply to all the non main contender co's lot's of independent owners some who control and release the products under the old names (gottlieb, eXidy). It's easy to look up. Besides the pinball shit and atari, most of the video stuff is gone and fair game. To see the true owners on stuff I did not mention, just look up who arcade1up got the licenses from or any recent release of a toy or product lol.
