both my brothers swear up and down they use to play zelda on a cocktail (not tent) at pizzahut when they were younger (early 90's) anyone know anything about this?

Plenty of Castlevania's in the Pizza Hut's, BITD! No Zelda. The Rad Racer hack is correct. They might have removed the 8T chip and were able to re-write the name, for the menu screen. It's possible. But I agree, early 90's? Dont think so.

Also, is he sure was it in a cocktail?

Could have been a bartop.

i have been over and over and over this with him. he keeps telling me to find him his zelda arcade game for his house. I showed him a cocktail, bartop and tent and he said 100% it was a cocktail because he would stand over it for an hour our more at a time and play zelda and his back would kill him. I will try to get him to pinpoint more of a year

It's interesting, if anything else. I think we all agree that he did play it and remembers it, it just wasnt a dedicated machine. I've seen several arcades where LOZ is listed in the PC-10 game menu. Imagine how long you'd be standing there playing, tho! :)

thats what im saying! ive been telling him for the past couple years he must have been playing a different game and was wrong, then last night he kept nagging me about it so I figured if it ever existed I would post on here and someone would know. im going to grill him more for details, i think he had a birthday there once, maybe I can digup some old pics or something and it might be in the background

ask him if he remembers having to use quarters or tokens to play? If not it could have just been a NES that someone hacked into a cocktail.

Was probably a hacked NES, like p1899m said. I know some people from Nicaragua, they're always telling me about the weird arcade games they played back in the day, I didn't believe them until they had their mom explain it to me. They have arcade games with home systems hacked into them on timers and things. I've seen a few boards that allowed you to play a SNES on a timer, maybe that was the Legend of Zelda he's talking about.

A NES would have been rather difficult to put in a machine. Especially in 1990.

Maybe it was the SNES one? With a timer?

I have never seen any NES boards used with a timer.

Yellow............... This is the first list that I've EVER seen LOZ on! Kinda weird. Maybe your cousins werent so stoned after all! :) However, it's so difficult to tell from these lists, if there were just pilots or real releases. I always come across: Vs Volleyball, Urban Champion, and Wild Gunman, on the list. As far as the latter goes, 99% of the time, someone says that the game was made only for Marty Mc Fly in BTTF.

There seems to be no rom downloads for those 3 games, either. So who knows. :dontknow: Just thought the list was interesting, like a conspiracy theory!

Just guessing, but I would say a PC10 single screen kit in an old DK or DKJR cocktail cab, with a cartridge hacked with zelda roms. If you search Ebay it, you should be able to find a hacked cart eventually. But hey, that's just a guess.

I thought hacking the cart is as easy as removing the rom from a nes cartridge and placing it on a compatible cart. If it was a single, it wouldn't have the sencond monitor showing the title so you wouldn't see any discrepancies with the title. Does the single screen PC10 show the title select screen between games or does it just swap to the next title when you hit the swap game button. Don't really own one so its just a theory.
