I got a dollar changer but the motor doesn't activate to pull the dollar into the changer. It works because it comes on for a moment after plugging it in. It's a Hamilton from 1991. Hamilton's website doesn't have the manual or anything that would help.

umm..... do you have enough change in it?? if it detects there is not enough change in it.. it wont take the bill..

not just a few coins of each... but a good amount...

Really? So does that mean it will stop working before it's empty? I probably have $5.00 worth of quarters in it. The out of service light doesn't come on but I can't be sure it works.

All the changers I've seen need at least $20 in quarters in the payout hoppers/tubes to work.

You guys are awesome. I put in $30 worth of quarters and we're in business! I AM STOKED!!

It still won't accept any bills over $1.00. Not sure I understand that, the dip switches are set as they should be.

I'm still amazed that they would stop working with only $20 left. I would think operators would find that annoying.

Thanks for the help guys!!

Get the correct manual for the changer. You might have to buy it from Hamilton's parts department or from tech support. That's why you should always telephone them. There's a lot of stuff not shown on the website.

It's very possible your machine is only designed for $1 bills only regardless of what the bill acceptor is/says.

you are welcomed.... glad to have helped..

I learned because someone else told me.. prob Ken

my one coin machine gives change in quarters , dimes, and nickels.. I have to keep them all filled and even for it to work..

same in my pop machine..

as for not taking bills bigger than $1. IF its supposed to take $5's... are you sure its programmed for the new bills... have you tried the 'old' style bills ?

oh btw.. I got a better deal on my pop machine because the bill acceptor 'didn't work'...

got it home... and guess what... yup.. put change in it and it did....

Here is the manuals download page at Hamilton:

Please keep in mind that several years ago there were major problems with Hamilton's own line of HVX bill acceptors being cheated by kids. I won't go into the details, but suffice it to say that kids were cleaning out Hamilton brand changers left and right via cheating. Hamilton finally gave up on these bill acceptors and started providing Mars and Coinco bill acceptors in all their new changers as well as providing Mars/Coinco retrofit kits for existing Hamilton bill acceptors.
