I got my NES out of the closet for my 2 yr old and found her some educational games. I want to hook this thing up to my big screen. Will the graphics look bad or stretched? What can I expect to see?

Here's a ColecoVision hooked up to one:

Scaling isn't so much of an issue on my plasma, but depends on the video processor of your TV. I have a few buddies who say their classics (nes/snes/n64) are near unplayable due to lag between video output, and the time the panel actually displays the image.

What are guys using in place of the old RF switch boxes?

I have a C128, 2600, 5200 and a few others.. no luck getting picture with old boxes..

snowy or other issues, like no color

You can get little adapters so you can plug them in directly to the coax on the TV. Or you can mod them to output via composite cables. My advice would be to just play them on old CRT TVs. I keep several CRTs just for that (36", 27", 19", and 13").

Yeah, I have a 32" CRT for the future gameroom and a 19" at my parents' place that I plan to make room for one day as well.

My Dell 31" monitor has composite video inputs, and I use that for my retro game systems. I might get smacked for saying it on here, but it actually does look really good on it. I'll save myself by saying nothing beats a real CRT :p

Recently my dad has kept asking me if I want an LCD TV to replace my old CRT TV from 1988. I had to say "don't bother getting me one" because I fear my old game systems won't work on it!

I dont even like my Wii on LCD (even though it is) for one simple reason, the video has a slight "delay" compared to the old TV's. The difference is literally milliseconds, but its noticeable enough to bother me. Throws you off in tight situations with the controls.

But to answer your question, yes I have hooked up a Nintendo to an LCD, and it sucks big time. Old school systems belong on old school TV's, period. Nice thing about it is people are literally giving away TV's on CL nowadays, I've stockpiled a few in hopes for a lifetime supply, am I nuts?

NES and SMS games look and play great on my Wii VC playing on a 46" samsung lcd. Even shooters like Zanac.
They look good because the video output is coming from the Wii, not an NES or SNES
