Well heres the the thing once it fails after the fix the chance of reviving it are very low. Go to xbox-scene.com visit the forums and you will see members with professional re flow stations that offer repair this is your best bet.

Not sure if the softmodding will work, but the new 360s are really nice. Our second one just red ringed the other day, and we bought a new one. I cant hear the fans on the new one at all. I am seriously considering replacing the other one just for the quiet fans.

I'm about to take on my first RRoD 360 repair, it's got code 0110. Gotta go to the depo and get some grommets and washers it looks like (as i already have A.S.5 and remover).

I know little to nothing about these, it's my friends 360 and it's no loss if i can't get it working again, but if i can i'll definitely be doing more. (seem to have lost my T8 torx >.> )

Datafry works on these. He has a full setup just purchased for that purpose. He's not on here much but you can try PM'ing him.

That kit seems like a bit much. All you need are a few screws and washers that are available from lowes or the depot. The specs for said screws and washers can easil be found online. Thats how I fixed mine the first time and it wasnt too hard.

screws and washers are a bad idea as the x clamp keeps the board from warping and cracking ect..

I doubt that kit will even work honestly, from what i see the E20 0110 code my friends machine has requires a solder reflow of either the ram chips or the gpu, to do this right you need a BGA Welder which i don't have and i'm not about to go lay out the nickles to get one.

for your overheating error have you tried the fan chamber mod? where you put a piece of cardboard inside the chamber so it more evenly distributes airflow?

Datafry has one.

Not sure what my friend wants to do yet, i only got the box yesterday and started research and troubleshooting last night. It's all apart on my bench (desk) right now awaiting to hear what he wants to do before i throw fresh paste on it and put it back together.

I'm going to try and push on a few of the ram chips while booting to see if it will tell me which one is bad (tough ones are the ones under the gpu sink and on the bottom tho >.<)

I've done the clamp repair thing several different ways and they never last. Your best bet is to have it either reflowed or the chip removed and re-balled with the proper equipment. There used to be a couple of people on Ebay that would do it for around $40 plus shipping.

I have installed the Tailsmoon LED fans on several xboxes and they really keep the xbox a lot cooler.

yea i'm reading that most of the clamp/hairdryer fixes are just band-aids and the problem will just resurface. Gonna find out what my buddy wants to do tonight, maybe send it out and have it professionally done (reballed).

I've never had one of the clamp fixes last more than a month. Most fail in the first week. Stupid design. They should have not worried about size and built that darn thing big enough so that it would run cool. That and not using sockets for their chips and using lead free solder. It runs too hot and then the solder cracks.

It would also help if they weren't trying to suck air through the "heel" of the xbox with the xbox sitting on top of the intake. I always run mine in the horizontal position.

E20/0110 Fixed (kinda)....

Well tonight after talking to my buddy he basically said that if it wasn't 100% repaired then he'd rather just buy a new one. Told him i'd put it back together and maybe sell it on the local CL.

So i got home threw some AS5 on the GPU (and 2 ram chips under GPU Heatsink), and on the processor, put everything back together and figured i'd just see if what i did made any difference.

First time i plugged it in and hooked everything up still had 3 red lights >.<

I don't know why but i decided to keep playing around, i pushed on the twin X's of the lower case, poked and prodded a few other things, unplugged both the AV and power plug and re plugged them in. Powered it up and BAM, Green Circles!!!!

SWEET! except i didn't have a vga monitor anywhere near me (as that's what the cable my friend gave me).

So i move everything to the other side of the room, hook it up to my old 17" samsung lcd at my computer repair desk, turn it on and BAM RED LIGHTS >.< :shakefist:

so i did everything i did before i got it to go green circles before i moved it, power off and on 5 times .... still red lights.... WTF! >.<

decided to unplug the power and av cable (which was the one thing i didn't do after i moved it), removed the pc power cable from the ac adapter and waited for the light to go out. Plugged everything back in and BAM GREEN!!!!!!

threw soul calibur 4 in the drive and it's been running solid for 20-30min now :D

That happened to me kind of. I sold mine for $100 because I came up on a new model. That guy sold it to another guy for $60 because it didn't have hdmi. He also kept the hdd and controller. Then it red ringed 2 days later. I bought it back for $5 with a 20gb hdd! I went home plugged it in and bam green lights. Set it up in my room and back to rrod. Its such a strange problem. Let me know what you do with yours.

It's not mine, i'll be giving it back to my buddy. when we were talking tonight and thought it wasn't going to be repairable he said he was going to give me $50 if i could have fixed it, but since at that point we didn't think it was possible he said to try and sell it w/ the RRoD error.

Now that it's fixed i'm sure he'll want to hold onto it. If he gives me something in return that's a bonus for me as the experience was well worth it alone and i might start picking up dead 360's and try to revive them.

Time will tell tho, who know's what it will be doing tomorrow when i wake up. As of right now i'm just doing some burn in / time testing on it to make sure it doesn't die to quick. It's been going for an hour now without a hitch :D

Funny thing is I've never even owned an Xbox 360, and i've probably only spent maybe 2 hours total time playing one. this is an old 360 also circa 06'

Here's the vid i found on how to modify the air duct to increase airflow to the gpu.

This guy knows his stuff and has the tools to fix the 360 properly and he's kinda funny. He explains the downsides to the washer mod, towel cooking, and other info. If i hadn't come across these vids i would have taken my heat gun to the gpu and ram chips and prolly done more harm than good.
