i was up at the local micro center pc store looking around for some speakers and some solder and ran across a velleman soldering station for 19$
since the weller station was 129$ i decided to pick the velleman station um (hell as long as it works a little it was worth the 19$)

anyone ever heard of them are they at least descent

this one seems sturdy and well built and it also has a grounding spot on the back for woking on senstive boards

the specs are
input voltage
110vac 60hz
temp
175c - 480c
tolerance 5%
and has a ground output

the one concern i have is the tips .they did not have any replacement ones at the store, but it looks like the standard weller pro tips should work
am i correct in thinking that can you tell by this pic

cool thanks for the info seems like its not to bad for a 20$ station i can go out and grap a thermal tester for 12$ and have descent setup for less than what crap shack sells their station for

They are SLOW to heat up and the iron holder will pop apart on you but you can't beat the value for the cost.

I had one that I built about 18 years ago (I'm in the UK) - gave me perfect service for all that time until a few months ago when the heating element in the iron conked out and I couldn't find a replacement for love nor money, so had to get a new station.
