Not exactly a party, but I was finally able to give the MC CT to my buddy and he was ecstatic. We built him a MAME cab a few years ago but this is his first real arcade game. You should be happy to learn he says a real arcade game puts emulators to shame.
The MC was hidden under a Christmas table cloth so it looked like the other extra table we drag out at Christmas. I put a custom flyer keychain with the MC key on it into a gift bag. He opened it, said man this is cool, then said "But what's the key for?" That was when I walked over to the "table" and yanked the cloth off and said "For THIS!"
Of course, he still didn't get it, and said "What is that?" I said, "Your Missile Command!" From there it was on.
He mentioned that there's no way to get Missile Command exactly right in an emulator (he's right) and playing it again for the first time in 20 years was great...
His major fixation is the monitor/graphics - with good cause. He has been playing all his favorite games on an LCD with a generic layout, and now he has a real, original, bonafide Missile Command with real 60hz monitor and newly rebuilt trackballs.
This was my best Christmas arcade experience. It's his first real game. You all know how awesome it is to really own your own first real videogame machine from your childhood.
I was proud to initiate a new collector tonight. It did sort of derail the get together as he was fixated on beating his high score for a while.
