Anyone have this nice tool... An Eprom burner and IC Tester that can test logic chips...
http://www.megadepot.com/product/vi...d-ic-tester-over-8000-device-support#TOPMAXII

Would be nice to have if you shotgun approach your pcb fixing by removing and replacing chips. But I'll just diagnose pcb problems with my logic analyzer and logic probe.

If you got one what have you got and how much did it cost?

Got web link to better cheaper IC Testers?

If you have a logic analyzer, testing the logic chips should be very easy. You just have to invest the time to set it up the first time. That said, I have a programmer with the test function and I love it.

i bought one of these -

doesn't program 27 series eproms worth a crap, but reads them fine and tests logic and a few standard rams, and costs about 1/10 of the one you posted the link to.

Sure looks interesting, but there is no English web page for this device! Can you email me the manual and software for it to Jesse at [email protected], 2 separate emails...

I don't know anything about burning eproms, but will this device burn the eproms for Defender and Stargate - pcb and sound board eproms? Have you tried it for this?

Will it test all 74xx and 74LSxx chips?

google topwin english and there's plenty of links to software and manuals.
yes on 74, and i think 45 as well. Not at all if its 25 series eproms, and not very well for 27 series eproms. You really need one of the old school programmers to really work well with 25 and 27 series eproms.
data i/o 29b with logicpack is probably the best, if you can find one. They pop up on ebay from time to time. Others also like needhams and BP micros. Search eprom burners here, there's lots of info already, and i'm too lazy to look it up for you.

Do a search for Willem. There have been a few success stories with 2732s and a few less with 2532s and I don't recall anybody getting 2716s to burn in one pass with a Willem. The only ones that seemd to work were the dual power versions. I had a dual power version and it took using a laptop power supply rated at 12v @1.2 Amps to be able to burn any of the old NMOS EPROMs. And they were not very reliable. I ruined about 50% of the 2732s due to voltage drops during burning. If you are going to burn CMOS versions of the chips (27C32) they seem to work OK, but they are very hard to configure (you need to play with jumpers and dip switch settings) every time you change chip types.

I waited and found an old BP Microsysytems EP-1140 & I love it. Just load the software, find the chip on the scrolldown list, insert it, load the image and click the program button. Done.

You are welcome to try the Willem's, but I think just about everybody that did has bought an old school burner off Ebay. Save your money and your sanity and skip the Willems.

I have the newer model of that one with the housing. The newer one burns 2716, 2732, and 2532 great, no configuring at all. It has burned all but 2 2764 that I have tried to burn, and those may have been bad, but not sure. Those are the only ones I have tested it with. The unit linked to is not as capable as the one I have, but I am not sure what all the differences are. None of the willems will burn proms, so an old used Data I/O is the better option to be able to program any chip you will need.

I do like the speed and ease of use of the willem (again, the specific model that I have - I haven't heard anything good about any of the other ones). It has never taken more than a minute to program an eprom from the time I pull it out of the eraser. That includes loading the rom file, writing twice, and verifying.

I am always hesitant to recommend it because of the willem reputation, but I have been very happy with it and I am glad I bought it. I bought it knowing that I would need to buy an older one to program what this one wont. So if you only want one, wait for one that will do everything you need.
